There were many storytimes where we had students brighten up or volunteer to participate when their language was used in the story. We have also been able to hold many Wellness Centers within the library where the focus of the activities were particular books like Marvelous Now and A Little Spot of Learning Books. \r\n\r\nOne of my favorite parts of being a librarian is watching students browse the shelves and suddenly get excited when they find a book that catches their attention. With these new books, those moments have become even more meaningful because students are finding characters, languages, cultures, and experiences that feel familiar to them.\r\n\r\nStudents are also drawn to books with characters and experiences that reflect their own lives. Other students are discovering cultures and experiences they may not have encountered before. I love seeing students recommend these books to one another and explain why a particular character or story reminds them of themselves, their family, or someone they know. I've had students come with their friends and tell their friends to get specific books about their culture so that their friend could get to know them better. \r\n\r\nThat is really the heart of this project. We want every child who walks into our library to be able to find a book that makes them think, \"That could be me.\" Your generosity has helped us move closer to making that possible for every student.","fullyFundedDate":1774112416822,"projectUrl":"project/help-every-child-see-themselves-in-a-boo/10130821/","projectTitle":"Help Every Child See Themselves in a Book","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Jenny","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9816836_orig.jpg?crop=480,480,x0,y80&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1756305555076","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9816836"},{"teacherId":9816836,"projectId":9896550,"letterContent":"We are so grateful for your contributions towards our library. The children are fascinated by the book about how to make a lava lamp. I was also really glad that once I did have a kid who asked me for 'math books' I finally did have books to offer to them. I didn't expect the subject to be as popular as it became but your donation was instrumental towards sparking that curiosity in these kids and providing them with the means to expand their knowledge in the fields they're interested in. \r\n\r\nThe bilingual books are getting much interest as well and now there are also students who were inspired by them and are now asking for more books on learning how to speak spanish.\r\n\r\nThank you for facilitating our students learning. Because of you, my students now have access to beautiful oil pastels and a full set of skin-tone crayons that truly represent who they are.\r\n\r\nThe moment the supplies arrived, the students were thrilled. They immediately noticed the wide range of skin colors available and began excitedly finding the shades that matched themselves, their friends, and their families. It was a powerful moment—seeing each child feel seen, included, and celebrated through something as simple as a crayon.\r\n\r\nThe oil pastels have already brought a new level of creativity to our art lessons. Students are exploring blending, shading, and expressing themselves with vibrant colors they haven't been able to use before. These tools are helping them grow not only as artists, but as confident learners who know their work matters.\r\n\r\nYour donation did more than provide art supplies—it helped build representation, pride, and a stronger sense of belonging in our classroom.
