The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading.During the independent practice of Readers Workshop, students use leveled books to practice a newly learned reading strategy, and work on improving both their comprehension and fluency skills. We begin the year working on strategies like Schema, Making Meaningful Connections and Asking and Answering Questions, Next we move onto Visualization, Summarizing, Inferring, and Figurative Language. After a modeled lesson using mentor texts, the children go to their favorite reading spots and \"Have a Go\" practicing the strategy on their own. During individual conferencing, we discuss their individual strengths and enhancements as well as checking for their understanding of the strategy/skill. As the year progresses, so does their reading level, Since our school does not have a library, your donation has not only provided my students access to these diverse leveled books, but also a wondrous opportunity to continue their journey as growing readers.
