The books I selected have characters who look like they are from an Arabic nationality and have characters and titles that include names from this culture. Since around 90% of my class each year is of Arabic descent, this is an important feature that will help get them interested in the new books. The more I can get them to open the books, the more likely they are to read them. \r\n\r\nGetting kids to sit down and read for enjoyment these days is a challenging task. Books are competing with video games, TV, and handheld electronic devices and losing the fight. I try to keep up with the latest trends in reading, and showcase books I think they will like to build excitement for reading. \r\n\r\nOne activity I include in my classroom routine is to check out a set of books in a certain series, certain topic, or similar characters and give the kids time to read in class. Then, they compare the books in the set, discuss the similarities and differences, and if time, complete a fun activity with the book series. The books I received with your donation will be used in this way. My hope is that this routine will build their confidence, improve their reading ability, and get them interested in reading for enjoyment. In the long run, this will create lifelong learners!","fullyFundedDate":1754415150654,"projectUrl":"project/help-me-add-culture-specific-books-to-my/9247445/","projectTitle":"Help Me Add Culture Specific Books to My Classroom Library","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Cazares","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5531353_orig.jpg?crop=1320,1320,x47,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1603210143027","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5531353"},{"teacherId":8068153,"projectId":9319709,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support of our project, \"From Blurry to Brilliant: Revolutionizing Instruction Through Visual Precision.\" Because of your kindness, our classroom now has a high-quality document camera that has transformed the way my students learn. Whether I'm modeling how to solve a math problem, annotating a text, or demonstrating a hands-on science activity, the document camera allows every student to see the process clearly and in real time—no more squinting from the back of the room or missing important steps.\r\n\r\nMy students are especially excited when I showcase their work under the camera. They love seeing their own writing, drawings, and problem-solving strategies projected for the whole class. It's built a stronger sense of classroom community and boosted confidence for so many. One student, who's usually quiet, lit up when we used her paragraph as an example of strong writing—she said it made her feel \"like a real author.\" The document camera has also helped support different learning styles by providing a visual and tactile component to each lesson.","fullyFundedDate":1746786111216,"projectUrl":"project/from-blurry-to-brilliant-revolutionizin/9319709/","projectTitle":"From Blurry to Brilliant: Revolutionizing Instruction Through Visual Precision","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Herr","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8068153_orig.jpg?crop=2208,2208,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1736122408299","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8068153"},{"teacherId":8068153,"projectId":9248537,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting \"Building Identity Through Literature: A Collection for Our Students.\" Because of your generosity, my students now have access to a diverse range of books that reflect their identities, experiences, and imaginations—and the impact has been immediate and powerful. These new titles have helped us explore critical reading skills such as making inferences, identifying theme and tone, analyzing character development, and comparing perspectives. More importantly, they've opened the door to discussions about culture, belonging, and what it means to see oneself in a story.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom has transformed from a quiet task into an active, joyful experience. Students are now excited to pick up a book, often asking, \"Can we read a little longer today?\" I've seen students who were once hesitant readers become deeply engaged with books that speak to their own lives and interests. One student, who rarely spoke during class discussions, gave an incredibly thoughtful analysis of a character who reminded her of her older brother. Another, who previously struggled to finish assigned readings, stayed after school to finish a novel in our collection because he \"had to know what happened.\" These moments are thanks to you.","fullyFundedDate":1744239607335,"projectUrl":"project/building-identity-through-literature-a/9248537/","projectTitle":"Building Identity Through Literature: A Collection for Our Students","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Herr","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8068153_orig.jpg?crop=2208,2208,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1736122408299","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8068153"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_29334","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":456,"numTeachers":33,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":9,"percentWhite":77,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":9,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"13.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":68.9,"schoolId":29334,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Ridge Lawn Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Ridge Lawn Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/illinois/chicago-ridge-school-district-127-5/ridge-lawn-elementary-school/29334"}
