In a high school science setting, students frequently need diagrams, guided notes, modified readings, lab instructions, and graphic organizers in real time. Before this project, if something wasn't printed ahead of time, students had to wait—or go without. Now, I can respond to student needs on the spot.\r\n\r\nFor students with IEPs, 504 plans, and visual impairments, access to printed materials is not just helpful—it's essential. Many of these students require enlarged text, modified formatting, or printed copies of digital slides to follow along effectively. Having a classroom printer means I can quickly adjust font size, provide highlighted notes, or print a clean copy of instructions during class. This reduces frustration, increases independence, and ensures that accommodations are consistently met.\r\n\r\nWhile many donors use printers at home, in a classroom setting this technology directly supports equity and access. Students learn in different ways. Some process information better when they can physically annotate a page, highlight key ideas, or write directly on diagrams. In biology, where we work with complex visuals (cell structures, body systems, cycles, and models) having an immediate printed reference improves comprehension significantly.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting part for students is the immediacy. When they ask, \"Can I get this printed?\" and I can say \"Yes—give me a minute,\" it makes them feel supported and seen. They don't have to navigate the stress of tracking down another printer in the building or waiting until the next day.\r\n\r\nStudents with visual impairments and those who benefit from enlarged or modified materials have been the most impacted. Being able to adjust text size immediately has increased their confidence and participation. Instead of struggling silently, they now have materials that meet their needs right away.\r\n\r\nOverall, this printer has become more than just a piece of technology—it's a tool for access, inclusion, and equity. It ensures that all students, regardless of learning differences, can fully participate in our classroom community.","fullyFundedDate":1757502169400,"projectUrl":"project/equal-opportunity-learning/9694124/","projectTitle":"Equal Opportunity Learning","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Russell","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8020337_orig.jpg?crop=720,720,x0,y40&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1630003073865","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8020337"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_82144","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1635,"numTeachers":149,"percentFrplEligible":3,"percentAsian":33,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":55,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":7,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"11.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":69.6,"schoolId":82144,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Ridge High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Ridge High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-jersey/bernards-township-school-district/ridge-high-school/82144"}
