The book has been such a success with these students, and I'm looking forward to using them with future classes for years to come. \r\n\r\nThe first time I knew that this book would be a hit was on the day we started reading them. I gave students some free quiet reading time to start the book on their own. When I told them time was up, I heard audible groans. One student called out, \"But it's so good!\" They all wanted to keep reading!\r\n\r\nThis book gives students a unique opportunity to connect to their multi-lingualism (we are a dual language French/English school). It has given Latino and Spanish-speaking students a chance to see themselves in the characters in the book, drawing comparisons and helping with Spanish translations. \r\n\r\nThis book has also combined very well with our 5th grade curriculum. During our poetry unit we used our knowledge to identify styles of poetry used in the book. We've also worked on defining new words based on context and morphology. \r\n\r\nOverall my students have loved this book, and I loved teaching it. Thank you for making it possible.","fullyFundedDate":1759703452650,"projectUrl":"project/5th-grade-novel-study-for-hispanic-herit/9789331/","projectTitle":"5th Grade Novel Study for Hispanic Heritage Month","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Ndecky","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10173597_orig.jpg?crop=2499,2499,x201,y594&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1759518764746","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10173597"},{"teacherId":5150245,"projectId":8947954,"letterContent":"Thank you again! I am so sorry to miss the deadline! Things have been very crazy at school the last few weeks.\r\n\r\nLet me take this time to just say a huge THANK YOU for your donation! Check out the photos and you can see our kids so happy to be doing research on Langston Hughes and maps for Black History Month.\r\n\r\nIt is so important to have functioning computers in the library that are easy for kids to access to do their curious research and have all their amazing questions answered. As we are also a French Dual Language school, the kids now have another resource to help them learn and study in their second language.\r\n\r\nWe love the equipment! These 2 HP all-in-ones were very affordable, and are fast and responsive!\r\n\r\nRichland Avenue Elementary School values your donation because, as I said in the opening letter, it has gotten harder after COVID to get funding for technology. Your donation has gone such a long way to making a huge impact for the technological needs at our school.\r\n\r\nThank you again from the bottom of our hearts!","fullyFundedDate":1732576455276,"projectUrl":"project/computers-for-the-library/8947954/","projectTitle":"Computers For The Library!","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Gaydos","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp5150245_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1518663997242","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mistergkids"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_7258","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":252,"numTeachers":14,"percentFrplEligible":15,"percentAsian":4,"percentBlack":6,"percentWhite":61,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":11,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"18.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":89.8,"schoolId":7258,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Richland Avenue Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Richland Avenue Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/los-angeles-unified-school-district/richland-avenue-elementary-school/7258"}
