While they often start out thinking a graphic novel will be \"easier\" to read, they quickly realize it actually challenges them on a much sophisticated level. By pairing text with detailed visual storytelling, students are learning to navigate media literacy, analyzing how imagery, color, and panel layout convey subtle themes and character emotions. They are making far deeper inferences than they would with traditional text alone, tapping into multiple forms of literacy to dissect complex concepts like propaganda, control, and privacy. Students who used to hesitate during reading time are now eagerly turning pages, analyzing character motivations, and participating in class discussions with enthusiasm. Seeing them connect so deeply with the material and gain confidence in their literacy skills has been deeply rewarding. All of the students have also especially enjoyed the shout out to Artesia High School's NBA player James Hardin since that is one of the high school's in our district!\r\n\r\nYour belief in our classroom and our students means the world to us.
