Since the materials were already available when the school year began, it's better to focus on how they were integrated into your kindergarten classroom rather than the students' reaction to receiving them.\r\n\r\nAs I transitioned from first grade to kindergarten this year, these resources quickly became an important part of our daily learning routines. My students use the alphabet sound teaching tubs during literacy centers to practice identifying beginning sounds, sorting objects, and building phonemic awareness skills. The magnetic Elkonin boxes have been especially helpful during small-group instruction as students learn to hear, segment, and blend sounds in words. One memorable moment was watching a student who initially struggled to identify individual sounds independently use the Elkonin boxes to successfully segment and read a simple CVC word. The confidence and excitement that followed were wonderful to see.\r\n\r\nMy students have loved using these hands-on materials. The activities feel like games, which keeps them engaged and eager to participate while developing critical early literacy and fine motor skills. The manipulatives provide opportunities for students to learn through exploration and collaboration, making abstract concepts more concrete and accessible for young learners.\r\n\r\nAs the year has progressed, we have continued to build on these foundational skills. Students are now applying their phonics knowledge to read and write simple words and sentences, while also strengthening the fine motor skills needed for writing and other classroom tasks. These resources have helped create an engaging learning environment where students can practice important kindergarten skills, gain confidence, and develop a strong foundation for future success. Thank you for helping make this possible for my students.","fullyFundedDate":1746496025633,"projectUrl":"project/fine-motor-and-literacy-in-kindergarten/9250825/","projectTitle":"Fine Motor and Literacy in Kindergarten","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Plascencia","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2946309_orig.jpg?crop=1784,1784,x352,y680&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1657433736450","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/m-plascencia"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_30970","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":593,"numTeachers":28,"percentFrplEligible":48,"percentAsian":6,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":30,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":52,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":9,"gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"21.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":80.1,"schoolId":30970,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Reidy Creek School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Reidy Creek School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/escondido-union-elementary-school-district/reidy-creek-school/30970"}
