I work with a small group of K-2 graders who have autism and Down Syndrome. They all learn best when given hands on activities and sensory tools to help them stay focused and engaged in the lessons. After thirty years of teaching General Education students, this is my first year with students with special needs. It has been quite a learning curve but I am truly enjoying this new experience!\r\n\r\nI have slowly been pulling out the new supplies and it has been so much fun watching the students see something new and dive into exploring the items. One student in particular has fallen in love with the 4-in-1 activity that has a drill, wrench, and screws on a pegboard. He is able to show his creative thinking and problem-solving that he can not verbalize. It has been so much fun to get to know more about my students with what they choose to explore and also HOW they explore.\r\n\r\nI will continue to pull out the items over the next few weeks and look forward to seeing their continued responses to the activities. I will be forever grateful for your generous donations!
