Students have the right to have a safe environment to learn alongside their peers. These sensory tools will provide a space within the regular education classroom for students to feel empowered to take control of their learning. Our calming area will be a space for students to take charge of their learning, as well as sensory needs. Creating a dedicated area in our classroom allows students to utilize the tools to meet their sensory input needs, allowing them to dedicate more focus to their academic and social emotional learning, as well as positive interactions with peers. The light covers will soften the harsh fluorescent lights, creating a more inviting environment and helping improve focus for all students. Headphones have the potential to help multiple students at once, as they do not need to be utilized in the designated area, but can be worn while completing independent work. Most of the other tools will be used specifically in our designated calming area, allowing individual students to have space and a sensory break as needed, in order to achieve a calm body and mindset before returning to the task at hand.
