The books are beautiful and we've been enjoying getting to know Jonathan Harker and Count Dracula here at the beginning of the year.\r\nWe are learning a bundle of new reading strategies this year, including Talking to the Text, Golden Line Protocol, and Metacognitive Logs, via Reading Apprenticeship. Teachers attend a training and then we share the methods with our students. The students are responding very well to the strategies. For Dracula, we are using Metacognitive Logs, which consists of using a paper divided into two sections, one for where we found a noteworthy item in the text, and to its right, why we noted it. We read sections using this log and then discuss the items we noted as a class.\r\nI look forward to continuing to read through the book in this manner, helping my students develop reading stamina and attention spans, as well as perhaps instilling a love for classic literature (especially classic horror).","fullyFundedDate":1776955968625,"projectUrl":"project/have-you-ever-read-dracula/10203277/","projectTitle":"Have You Ever Read Dracula?","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Kendall","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10481725_orig.jpg?crop=2735,2735,x0,y401&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1776894648511","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/missjeskendall"},{"teacherId":9420915,"projectId":9968385,"letterContent":"The LCD projector has made a big difference in my classroom. Having this technology integrated into my daily instruction has transformed how I organize, prepare, and deliver lessons for my high school English students. With access to digital annotation tools, interactive reading routines, and seamless lesson planning apps, this resource has elevated my craft and allowed me to design more dynamic, student-centered learning experiences.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite moments using the iPad was during a recent text analysis activity. I was able to model real-time marginal notes and live-annotate complex passages directly onto the screen while moving freely around the classroom. Seeing students immediately mirror these active reading strategies in their own work made a visible difference in their engagement and comprehension.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, I am excited to continue growing my skill in integrating digital formative assessments into our literature units.
