These kits include color-coded sound tiles (like vowels, consonants, and digraphs) and give students a way to physically map out sounds as they read and write.\r\n\r\nHow we're using them in the classroom:\r\nWe use these kits daily during our small group reading time. One of my favorite moments happened during a lesson on \"magic e\" words—students were able to physically change cap to cape by adding a silent \"e\" tile. You could literally see the \"lightbulb\" go on as they realized how one small change completely shifts the word.\r\n\r\nWe've also been using the kits for \"sound chaining,\" where students build a word, then swap one sound at a time to create new words (like mat → map → mop → mope). This has been incredibly powerful for strengthening both decoding and spelling skills.\r\n\r\nStudent reactions:\r\nThe excitement was immediate. Interactive slides allowed students to practice decoding words, building sentences, or solving math problems with immediate visual feedback. Printable center activities created more structure during rotations, which meant students spent less time waiting and more time actively learning.
