Two of my former students came in for their assessments today and immediately ran over to the cabinets. They were so excited, asking what the cabinets were for and commenting on how beautiful they looked. When I explained that students would now be able to store their supplies in their group drawers, they were thrilled! One of them even mentioned how relieved she was that the cabinet wouldn't tip over anymore if they were too rough with it.\r\n\r\nI also shared that we've received some fun new stickers as daily rewards for their hard work, and they couldn't wait to begin our sessions.\r\n\r\nThank you for your kindness and generosity. These books support Spanish-speaking students in their language development. Having a collection of Spanish language books allows students to experience stories and concepts from different cultural perspectives, fostering empathy, global awareness, and a deeper appreciation for linguistic diversity. \r\n\r\nIn addition, these books have been a valuable tool for enhancing literacy skills across the board. Spanish language books offer a variety of genres, from picture books to more complex narratives, which cater to different levels of language proficiency. This enables students to engage with text at their own pace, build vocabulary, and improve comprehension. Moreover, the bilingual nature of many books allows students to make connections between English and Spanish, reinforcing learning in both languages. The presence of Spanish books in my classroom has created a dynamic, language-rich environment that helps all students thrive academically and socially, enriching their overall educational experience.\r\n\r\nFinally, these books have allowed Spanish speakers to participate in Accelerated Reader. Unfortunately, AR does not have much in the way of Spanish language articles - and these books have allowed all of my students to be successful in this program. My students feel proud with their accomplishments, having gained many points from the reading they are now able to do.","fullyFundedDate":1727806133726,"projectUrl":"project/expanding-literacy-spanish-language-cha/8843736/","projectTitle":"Expanding Literacy: Spanish Language Chapter Books for Our Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Keels","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8708029_orig.jpg?crop=1784,1785,x0,y166&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1690987809858","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8708029"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_32670","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":336,"numTeachers":20,"percentFrplEligible":89,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":3,"percentWhite":26,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":63,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"16.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":78.5,"schoolId":32670,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Rancho Mirage Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Rancho Mirage Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/palm-springs-unified-school-district/rancho-mirage-elementary-school/32670"}
