We were so excited to see the brand new atlases and couldn't wait to look through them. \r\n\r\nAlthough it may seem as if GPS and technology are taking over the world, nothing beats the ability to see locations and their proximity to each other and to us on an \"old-school\" map. These books also include colorful pages that show us what each continent is like and some of the landmarks in each part of the world. Several students have even started reading the atlases as their personal choice reading book during independent reading time!!\r\n\r\nWe will have so many opportunities to use these books throughout the year. We start each year with a \"scavenger hunt\" which helps us identify the different kinds of maps, the differences between countries and continents, different landforms, map directions and reading a map key, among others. In Spanish we look at maps to identify Spanish-speaking countries and we focus specifically on South America and the many different countries that speak Spanish there. We are just beginning to learn about the routes of the explorers during the Age of Exploration and we will use our atlases to track their journeys. \r\n\r\nThank you again for this wonderful donation!
