Your support has allowed my students to experience a powerful and engaging text that has sparked meaningful conversations in our classroom. Through this novel, students are exploring important literary skills such as character development, plot structure, and the impact of point of view. Because the story is written in poetic prose, students are also learning how authors use structure, spacing, and figurative language to create tension and emotion in a unique way.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is highly interactive. Students annotate the text, discuss themes in small groups, and reflect on the choices characters make throughout the story. The book's themes surrounding community, identity, and the consequences of violence encourage students to think critically about the world around them and how individuals make decisions when faced with difficult circumstances. The format of the novel—short, impactful pages—has been especially helpful for building reading confidence and keeping students engaged.\r\n\r\nSeveral students who are typically hesitant readers have been especially drawn to this book. The pacing and poetic style make the story feel fast and intense, and many students have commented on how relatable the characters and emotions feel. It has been incredibly rewarding to see students eager to turn the next page and participate in thoughtful discussions about the story's deeper messages. Your donation has truly helped bring literature to life in our classroom, and we are so grateful for your support.","fullyFundedDate":1768941842368,"projectUrl":"project/a-short-way-away-from-a-long-way-down/10032215/","projectTitle":"A Short Way Away from a Long Way Down!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Shepard","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10408364"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_47321","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":530,"numTeachers":31,"percentFrplEligible":75,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":85,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":5,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"7 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"17.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":84.4,"schoolId":47321,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Quaboag Regional Middle High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Quaboag Regional Middle High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/massachusetts/quaboag-regional-school-district/quaboag-regional-middle-high-school/47321"}
