Our black light art show was a huge success! We had over 300 family and community members attend our art show. Our students play an active role in curating the exhibit, brainstorming ideas to make the event more immersive and engaging for our school community. This year, my students were particularly inspired by the art of Frida Kahlo. They decided to create artwork that included the landscapes and traditions of Mexico, create an enchanted forest, and build a whimsical candy land using artistic techniques explored in drawing, painting, and collage. My second-grade students also designed their own candy costumes and choreographed a performance for the event.\r\nAs an art teacher, it is incredibly important to me to not only showcase my students' work but to celebrate their dedication and creativity. This art show serves as a culmination of their efforts throughout the school year and highlights the pride they take in their artistic journey.\r\nThe most rewarding aspect of our glow-in-the-dark art show is seeing the joy and excitement on my students' faces as they see their work glow, and the pride they feel in sharing it with their families and the broader school community. For example, when one of the performers who played Mama Bear received her hat for her costume, she was very excited and ran to the bathroom to see herself in the mirror.
