Your contribution made this project possible, and its impact reached far beyond the classroom walls. Because of your kindness and belief in hands-on learning, our students were given a meaningful opportunity to explore creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving in an exciting and memorable way.\r\n\r\nThe Great Marshmallow Tower Build quickly became one of the most engaging and joyful learning experiences for my students. From the moment the materials were introduced, there was a sense of excitement and curiosity in the room. Students eagerly worked together to design and construct the tallest free-standing tower they could imagine. This challenge encouraged them to think critically, test ideas, revise their plans, and persevere when their structures did not work as expected. Through trial and error, they learned that mistakes are an important part of the learning process.\r\n\r\nOne of the most powerful outcomes of this project was the opportunity for students to collaborate and work as a team. Students learned how to communicate their ideas clearly, listen to one another, and make decisions together. They practiced patience, compromise, and leadership as they shared roles and responsibilities within their groups. Watching students encourage one another, problem-solve together, and celebrate their successes was truly inspiring. Many students expressed pride in what they accomplished as a team, reinforcing the importance of cooperation and mutual respect.\r\n\r\nIn addition to teamwork, students were introduced to and practiced using different types of measuring tools, such as measuring tapes. They learned how to measure height accurately, compare results, and discuss which designs were most effective. This hands-on experience helped students better understand measurement concepts and apply them in a real-world context. Learning became active, engaging, and meaningful as students saw how math and planning directly influenced their outcomes.\r\n\r\nStudents also had a great deal of fun creating a plan before building their towers. They sketched ideas, discussed strategies, and adjusted their designs as they worked. This planning process helped them develop organizational skills and reinforced the importance of thinking ahead. The joy on their faces as they tested their towers and proudly measured their final structures reflected the confidence and sense of accomplishment they gained from this experience. Although the highest tower only reached 9in. We all had a ball. Students even enjoyed eating the extra marshmallows that were left over. \r\n\r\nYour generosity made all of this possible. Because of you, my students were able to challenge themselves, build confidence, and discover the joy of learning through exploration and teamwork. The lessons they learned during The Great Marshmallow Tower Build will stay with them far beyond this project, influencing how they approach challenges in the future.\r\n\r\nThank you for investing in our students and for supporting innovative, hands-on learning experiences. We are incredibly grateful for your generosity and the lasting impact you have made on our school community.","fullyFundedDate":1760720019738,"projectUrl":"project/the-great-marshmallow-tower-build/9777140/","projectTitle":"The Great Marshmallow Tower Build","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Solano","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2159308"},{"teacherId":3961135,"projectId":9430552,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous donation towards my classroom library. \r\n\r\nBecause of your help, I have now been able to use these new bins to organize all of the books that I have. As students program a robot to dance or navigate a maze, they are actively mastering core computer skills: they are figuring out the right order of steps (sequencing), creating a plan (algorithm), and learning how to make the robot do something \"if\" a certain thing happens (conditional logic). And when the robot bumps into a wall? That's awesome! They get to be detectives, looking for the tiny mistake in their code and fixing it (debugging). This process is moving them past just guessing and is showing them how to solve problems the smart way.\r\n\r\nBut the impact is much bigger than just tech skills. Robotics challenges are consistently fostering teamwork! Kids are learning to talk to each other, share ideas, and work together to get the robot to complete its mission. This collaborative effort is building essential teamwork skills and a sense of shared success. Crucially, the process of constantly trying, failing, and fixing is teaching them to be resilient. They quickly realize mistakes aren't a big deal—they're just clues for what to try next!
