They are vibrant, joyful, curious, and eager about learning. They are a wonderful group of diverse children in an urban neighborhood with very limited resources. Many of my children do not own a computer at home but light up at the sight of them and anticipate for their turn on the one semi functioning computer in our class. For this and many other reasons I try my best to provide them with an array of other tools that pique their interest to help them face the challenges of our new rigorous curriculum. A new touch screen computer would afford my children the opportunity to move with the times and support them with mastering basic literacy and math skills with interactive programs. In my school the students do not get a class computer period until the third grade and I want to expose them to technology a lot earlier. I want them to be able to securely and safely use a computer before they get to the third grade.
