The children love using them to build and create, which has sparked their imagination and problem-solving skills.\r\n\r\nYour generosity is helping us create a more engaging and educational environment for our students, and for that, we are deeply appreciative. Each student was given an array of materials to choose from your donation. They selected skin, hair and eye color to create their faces. Then they chose outfits and decorated the clothing with buttons and other embellishments. Finally, they generated sentences with me about themselves. We rewrote and edited the autobiographies until the students were happy with their stories. Each student's autobiography was typed and displayed in a clear folder. The students enjoy reading each other's stories.\r\n\r\nOnce the self-portraits all finished, we plan to put on some puppet shows. I plan to help students write simple skits to put on some puppet shows in our library. \r\n\r\nStudents have also enjoyed using the watercolor and dot paints. It is very calming for some of my students who have difficulty self-soothing to use the watercolors when they are having a hard day. \r\n\r\nMy students absolutely loved all the materials, and we are so grateful for your support!","fullyFundedDate":1733229303405,"projectUrl":"project/who-am-i/8777347/","projectTitle":"Who Am I?","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Ferrara Campos","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp529773_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1506986394096","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/529773"},{"teacherId":2374155,"projectId":8576362,"letterContent":"I want to thank you for your wonderful donations. I am writing to express my heartfelt gratitude for your generous donation of a play set and a play dollhouse for my special education students in grades K-2. Your contribution is making a significant difference in their educational experience, and I wanted to share the impact it has had on our classroom.\r\n\r\nThe play dollhouse has become a wonderful tool for social skills development among my students. It encourages them to engage in collaborative play, helping them learn essential skills such as communication, sharing, and taking turns. These interactions foster a sense of community and belonging within the classroom.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, the dollhouse stimulates creativity and imagination. My students love to create narratives and role-play scenarios, which enhances their cognitive development as they explore different themes and ideas. It's truly inspiring to see their creativity come to life during playtime.\r\n\r\nThe fine motor skills of my students have also greatly improved as they manipulate small figures and objects in the dollhouse. This hands-on activity is particularly beneficial for those who face challenges with hand coordination. \r\n\r\nMoreover, play is an invaluable outlet for emotional expression. The dollhouse provides a safe environment for my students to navigate their feelings and understand various perspectives through play. It creates a fantastic opportunity for them to explore their emotions interactively.\r\n\r\nIncorporating the playset into our routine not only complements our academic goals but also reinforces essential learning concepts. We often use it to teach about family dynamics, storytelling, and even math skills, such as counting objects.\r\n\r\nYour donation promotes inclusion and accessibility within our classroom. All students are able to engage with the materials, regardless of their individual learning needs, fostering a sense of togetherness.\r\n\r\nLastly, the dollhouse helps build stronger relationships between my students and myself. Participating in their play allows me to guide interactions and facilitate meaningful learning moments, enriching their overall educational experience.\r\n\r\nThank you once again for your generosity and support. Your contribution has a lasting impact on my students, and we are truly grateful.","fullyFundedDate":1726709235919,"projectUrl":"project/lets-play/8763764/","projectTitle":"Lets Play!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Bussi","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9742757"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_564","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":420,"numTeachers":37,"percentFrplEligible":93,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":23,"percentWhite":1,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":72,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"11.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":73.6,"schoolId":564,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about PS 257 John F Hylan on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"PS 257 John F Hylan","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/new-york-city-dept-of-ed/ps-257-john-f-hylan/564"}
