Each day we have students come to my office during certain times when they need to calm down from being in spaces in which they are overwhelmed (such as the auditorium or cafeteria) or they need a space to gather themsleves when they are having a bad day! \r\n\r\nThroughout the day our crisis team (guidance couselors, school pyscholgist and IEP team) is also called upon to help in times of need when a student is upset or in need of emotional regulation. Our macbook has been so helpful \"on the go\" and allows us to grab it and go to the place where we need to be to help. We have used it as resources for students such as videos or apps to help them calm down or allowing our older students to use it to keep journals. They had the fun opportunity to watch the caterpillars grow into beautiful butterflies and to plant their own flowers (which are currently still growing in our school hallway!) \r\nThey've have opportunities to practice working on novel vocabulary, reading comprehension, sequencing, narrative retelling, following directions, describing, comparing and contrasting and so much more! \r\nWe used the planting materials to make out own garden, the butterfly kits to observe our butterflies, and even had an indoor picnic with our picnic blanket after celebrating our butterfly release.
