My students are absolutely elated with their new books. They love reading their Pigeon Series, A Little Spot of Learning books, The Good Seed, The Bad Egg, The Couch Potato, and The Cool bean. Every day when I introduced a new book, their eyes lit up with excitement. Watching them hold a real book- turning the pages, looking at the illustrations, and laughing at the characters-reminded me that reading is truly a lost art,\r\n\r\nIn September, my students walked into a classroom with very few supplies and no books. My heart broke as I searched daily for donations, hoping to give them something more than their tablets. I remember introducing the parts of a book to them for the first time- they couldn't find the front or back cover, and that moment made me realize just how much they needed this project. Once I began reading aloud, using character voices and acting out parts with their friends. That joy and imagination are what your donation made possible.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has had a lasting impact not only on my students but also on their families. Parents have been inspired to purchase books for their children at home. As a first-year teacher of students with disabilities, it means the world to me to see my students so engaged, confident, and eager to read. Too often, children with disabilities are underestimated, but thanks to you, they have been given the chance to shine through stories that make them laugh, think, and learn.\r\n\r\nI will forever be grateful for what your kindness has done to change the lives of eight young children. You are truly a hero to me and my students.","fullyFundedDate":1756919561132,"projectUrl":"project/reading-is-a-lost-art-waiting-to-be-foun/9666342/","projectTitle":"Reading is a Lost Art Waiting to be Found","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Echevarria","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10182807"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_161","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":424,"numTeachers":60,"percentFrplEligible":93,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":4,"percentWhite":1,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":92,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"7.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":69.2,"schoolId":161,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about PS 189 on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"PS 189","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/new-york-city-dept-of-ed/ps-189/161"}
