We used the EcoSphere as an educational extension to our Readtopia unit on Frankenstein, helping students make a real-world connection between gardening and the creation of life. Watching the plants sprout gave them a tangible way to explore themes of growth and responsibility—concepts that can be abstract for many of my nonverbal learners.\r\n\r\nOur Nintendo Switch has become a joyful centerpiece for movement and social interaction. Games like Just Dance have encouraged students to work together, celebrate each other's successes, and share laughter—creating genuine social connections that extend far beyond the screen. For many, this has been a safe and exciting way to practice turn-taking, imitation, and group participation.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, our 3D printer will open an entirely new world of creative expression. We plan to teach students how to design and print their own art pieces, allowing them to explore shape, texture, and imagination in a hands-on way. This tool will nurture both fine-motor development and artistic talent while building pride and independence as they see their ideas come to life.\r\n\r\nYour support has made our classroom not only more engaging but also more inclusive—empowering every student to learn, move, and create in their own unique way.","fullyFundedDate":1758899135777,"projectUrl":"project/engaging-empowering-and-educating-thro/9531147/","projectTitle":"Engaging, Empowering, and Educating Through Innovation","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Davis","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10110324"},{"teacherId":6612504,"projectId":5460113,"letterContent":"When the materials arrived, the excitement in the room was unforgettable! My students couldn't wait to explore the new alphabet cards, visual supports, and interactive books. Many of my students are limited in verbal skills, but their faces lit up the moment they saw the bright visuals and colorful reading tools. Some even began pointing at letters or trying to sound them out—pure joy!\r\n\r\nOne of our favorite classroom moments happened during a lesson on beginning sounds. Using the new alphabet figures and cards, we played a matching game where students had to find the letter that matched the first sound of a picture. Even my most hesitant learners were eager to participate, and it turned into a fantastic opportunity for practicing language and encouraging communication.\r\n\r\nWe're currently working on building word families and early reading comprehension using simple, repetitive books paired with visual supports. Students are learning to identify beginning sounds, blend letters to form words, and understand simple phrases. The materials have helped keep them engaged and motivated, especially during remote learning sessions, when it's easy to lose focus.\r\n\r\nThe next step for my students is diving deeper into reading comprehension. I'm planning more story-based lessons with visuals and tactile materials that support retelling, sequencing, and vocabulary building. We'll also continue growing our classroom library with accessible books that support their reading levels and language development.\r\n\r\nThanks to your support, my students are not only learning—they're excited to learn. These resources are genuinely making a difference, and we're so grateful to have you as part of our learning journey!","fullyFundedDate":1616523516762,"projectUrl":"project/fun-and-engaging-reading-materials/5460113/","projectTitle":"Fun and Engaging Reading Materials","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Rodriguez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6612504_orig.jpg?crop=1186,1186,x0,y513&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1652709149276","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ms-rodriguez-enl-classroom-project"},{"teacherId":9535263,"projectId":9108409,"letterContent":"The weighted blanket and bean bag chair you provided have become treasured resources in our special education classroom. The bean bag chair quickly became our designated \"calm corner\" centerpiece, where students can retreat when feeling overwhelmed or needing sensory regulation. The weighted blanket has been a revelation for students who struggle with anxiety or sensory processing challenges. Just last week, One of the students was having difficulty transitioning from gym class back to our learning environment. Instead of escalating into a meltdown as might have happened previously, he asked to use the weighted blanket for five minutes. After that brief reset with deep pressure input, he was able to rejoin his reading group with renewed focus.\r\nYou should have seen the expressions when these items first arrived! Several students immediately gravitated toward the bean bag chair, touching it cautiously before climbing in with huge smiles. When I explained how the weighted blanket works, one student asked, \"It's like a big hug that helps us calm down?\" That perfect description has stuck in our classroom. These tools have empowered students to recognize and verbalize their needs, with many now independently requesting these sensory supports before becoming dysregulated. This newfound self-advocacy is perhaps the most meaningful outcome of your generosity.","fullyFundedDate":1740545470093,"projectUrl":"project/cozy-comfort-corner-seating-for-student/9108409/","projectTitle":"Cozy Comfort Corner: Seating for Student Wellbeing","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Brito","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9535263"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_2027","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":387,"numTeachers":98,"percentFrplEligible":94,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":35,"percentWhite":2,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":58,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Not specified","studentTeacherRatio":"3.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":72.2,"schoolId":2027,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about P17X @ 298X on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"P17X @ 298X","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/new-york-city-dept-of-ed/ps-17x-at-184/2027"}
