It brings so much joy, movement, and excitement to their learning while helping them practice important math skills in a fun, active way. \r\nThey have been learning the rules of our Social-Emotional Learning Nook, such as how to choose the tools they need and how to use them. This space has helped them regulate their emotions, calm their bodies, and return to learning feeling ready and focused. The weighed stuff toys and stretchy toys have been incredibly helpful. They give them something comforting to hold, which helps reduce fidgeting and ease feelings of anxiety.\r\nOur flexible seating options have done wonders. The students are able to sit in ways that help them concentrate, stay comfortable, and remain engaged during lessons.\r\nWe are truly grateful for everything that allows our classroom to be a supportive, welcoming, and joyful place to learn and grow. It truly is reminiscent of the excitement of birthdays as a child. \r\nThe process takes a long time, and the anticipation builds. After creating a piece from clay, students have to wait a week for it to dry thoroughly and then for it to go into the kiln. Two weeks after creation, their pieces come back a different color, texture, and even size. At that point they carefully glaze each piece, making sure they've covered the entire thing three times. The following week, after a 2nd trip into the kiln, the magic is revealed. \r\nThey are so incredibly proud of their work. It absolutely makes my heart sing. I hear regularly from parents how important the ceramics program is to their children. Even better, sometimes I get 'love notes' from the students explaining how much they love ceramics. And yes, I keep every single one of them. \r\nWe could never do this without your generous and loving support. I truly can't thank you enough for helping to bring this unique and empowering experience to each and every one of them.","fullyFundedDate":1726625447894,"projectUrl":"project/cant-wait-to-get-our-hands-dirty-again/8792844/","projectTitle":"Can't Wait to Get Our Hands Dirty Again!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Lisa","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp963_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1505305548960","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/963"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_81","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":458,"numTeachers":51,"percentFrplEligible":60,"percentAsian":8,"percentBlack":13,"percentWhite":27,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":47,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"9.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":60.6,"schoolId":81,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about PS 165 Robert E Simon on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"PS 165 Robert E Simon","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/new-york-city-dept-of-ed/ps-165-robert-e-simon/81"}
