Students love to rest on it and read books on it. They also like to use it as a \"crash pad\" when they are having a big feeling. Having a comfy, sturdy bean bag where they can rest and regulate helps meet their sensory and social-emotional needs. \r\n\r\nThe children also love the new fidgets! I often see them sitting on the bean bag chair and admiring the glitter falling in the rainbow fidget. Your generous donations made it possible for my students to receive toys that are aligned with our social studies and science curricula. These toys have given my kindergarten special education students access to so many meaningful, play-based learning opportunities!\r\n\r\nI will never forget how my students' eyes went wide when they saw our new \"creativity corner\" materials. The \"creativity corner\" is one of the literacy stations that my students can visit each day. The goal of this station is to provide opportunities for dramatic play that are aligned with our current unit of study. My students were particularly excited about the large Fisher-Price school bus, which complemented our \"Curious About Kindergarten\" unit. Students were able to use the bus and the Fisher-Price schoolhouse I paired it with to act out different school scenarios that we discussed during the unit. They were also able to connect to their own personal experiences with school and the school bus. This play-based learning experience allowed them to build both their vocabulary and their social skills! They were equally excited about the community helper dolls and places, which is the unit that we are currently working on. I love listening in on their conversations as they ask each other who the helpers are, what they do, and where the work. Several of my students are working to improve their conversation skills, so these learning experiences are very valuable for them! It is such an engaging way for them to practice these important social studies concepts. I am so excited to introduce the other materials as we begin future units of study.\r\n\r\nThese toys that teach are also amazing props for read-aloud lessons. I paired the school bus toy with a read-aloud of the book \"School Bus\" by Donald Crews. We used the toy school bus and the little people dolls to act out the story! It was a highly engaging lesson that all of my students participated in, even the ones who can be a bit reluctant to join the group!\r\n\r\nThank you again for helping me bring the joy and power of play-based learning to my kindergarteners! We try to stay cutting edge as we hold true to foundational skills. This is always challenging as technology can become either a necessary tool or a consuming distraction. Pod casting has changed this perception and opened new doors for even the most hesitant writers.\r\n\r\nPod casting as allowed them to perform their writing in a new way. We spent time listening to pod casts and identifying the qualities of a good pod cast. The pod casts are interesting, sound knowledgeable, are engaging, personable and have a clear audience in mind. This allowed the students to create goals for their writing and a purpose. It allowed them to understand sthe need for writing and that it is more than an arduous task, it is a form of communication that is necessary in many different medias. \r\n\r\nKids often aspire to be TikTokers, You Tubers and other related social media stars. The inclusion of pod casting into our learning has shown that behind the scenes, there are content creators and that these content creators are writers.
