Because of your generosity, my students now have an exciting new tool that brings learning to life right before their eyes. The document camera has transformed the way we work together—allowing every student to view books, math problems, writing demonstrations, and student work clearly and in real time. Instead of huddling around a single desk or trying to visualize a distant example, students can now follow along with confidence while I model new strategies and skills.\r\n\r\nOne of the most exciting changes has been the increase in student engagement. The moment the camera turns on, students lean in—they love seeing their own work projected and enjoy sharing their thinking with the class. During writing, I can model revision and editing directly on screen. In math, the camera helps students better understand step-by-step problem-solving. Even read-alouds feel more interactive as students track text closely, notice illustrations, and discuss vocabulary together. Struggling learners, especially, have benefitted from being able to visually follow each step without missing a detail.\r\n\r\nA few students have especially connected with this new technology. One hesitant writer now eagerly volunteers to share her draft under the document camera, and seeing her ideas displayed has boosted her confidence. Another student who loves math enjoys using the camera to explain how he solved a problem, helping classmates learn new strategies. The technology has empowered students to take more ownership of their learning and feel proud of their contributions.\r\n\r\nThank you again for helping provide this powerful tool. These fresh additions have helped create a cozy, welcoming reading environment where every child can find a story that speaks to them. With so many new titles on our shelves, students are practicing vital reading skills each day—learning to make predictions, build vocabulary, identify themes, and talk about books with confidence. The diversity of texts has also encouraged students to see themselves reflected in the stories they read, which makes reading even more meaningful.\r\n\r\nDuring independent reading time, students can be found curled up with graphic novels, picture books rich with nonfiction content, and early chapter books that appropriately challenge their reading growth. One of my reluctant readers now asks to take books home so he can keep reading—something that wasn't happening before! Another student, who treasures nonfiction, spends every chance she gets exploring animal and world-culture books, proudly sharing her new knowledge with classmates. It has been so inspiring to see students trade recommendations and celebrate finishing books together.","fullyFundedDate":1758899057712,"projectUrl":"project/hooked-on-books-a-library-kids-will-lov/9521225/","projectTitle":"Hooked on Books: A Library Kids Will Love","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. David","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp4547001_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1500087921109","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4547001"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_110175","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":397,"numTeachers":34,"percentFrplEligible":14,"percentAsian":7,"percentBlack":4,"percentWhite":67,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":13,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"11.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":62.5,"schoolId":110175,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about PS 154 Windsor Terrace School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"PS 154 Windsor Terrace School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/new-york-city-dept-of-ed/ps-154-windsor-terrace-school/110175"}
