In our classroom our cozy corner serves multiple purposes; it is a place where the students gravitate to when they need some alone time; it is also a place where they can cuddle up with a good book to read by themselves or with a friend. it also is our calming corner where students go when they need time and space to calm their thoughts and feelings. Our cozy corner has also been used as a highlight and example in our building to encourage others to provide a similar space in their classrooms. Did I forget to mention that it is a HIT!\r\n The students enjoy listening to us read about our feelings with the book sets, \"A Little Spot of Feelings\" and describing how they feel using the puppets that came with the set. We are also learning about our history using \"The ABC of Black History\" and other similar books donated by you. Our school is such a diverse community that we relish reading about the experiences of others and seeing images of kids that they can relate to in such books as, Fry Bread: A Native American Family Story; Round Is a Tortilla: A Book of Shapes (paperback picture book) - A Latino Book of Concepts series; Jabari Jumps (paperback picture book); Malala: My Story of Standing Up for Girls' Rights (paperback chapter book); Pink Is for Boys (board book); Worldwide Buddies: China's Child (hardcover picture book); and The Kids' Book of Diversity: Empathy, Kindness and Respect for Differences (The Kids' Books of Social Emotional Learning) to name a few.\r\n Our Cozy Corner has become the cornerstone in the classroom; it's literally a grounding space for us to learn, coexist and bond as a community. More importantly, each student received a personalized reflection or piece of work that highlighted their individual progress in speech and language therapy.\r\n\r\nWatching my students open their bags and recognize how far they've come was truly special. One student beamed as he reread a short speech story he had written earlier in the year—something that felt impossible for him just a few months ago. These small but powerful moments of pride and accomplishment were exactly what I hoped to create with this project.\r\n\r\nYour support helped me end the year on a high note—not just by giving a gift, but by reinforcing each child's growth, confidence, and self-worth. When I introduced the flower model, my students were immediately curious—touching, turning, and labeling each part with excitement. The nonfiction book and posters have become staples in our sessions, helping students build background knowledge and use descriptive language during structured activities and conversations.\r\n\r\nOne of the most meaningful moments was when a student with limited expressive language used a full sentence to describe the function of the stem, saying, \"The stem holds up the flower and brings water.\" This was a direct result of the visual support and repeated exposure the materials provided. Across the board, my students have been using more targeted vocabulary, asking questions, sequencing the life cycle of a plant, and growing in both confidence and communication.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to apply these skills to a hands-on science and language journal project. We'll be planting seeds, observing changes, and describing each stage with the vocabulary and sentence structures we've been practicing.
