Many of our students come from low-income households and do not have access to educational technology or literacy resources at home. This screen-free listening technology gives our children meaningful exposure to stories, songs, and language in a way that is developmentally appropriate and easy for them to use independently. By simply placing a character on the box, students can listen to high-quality audio that supports early literacy, vocabulary development, and listening comprehension.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting part for our students is the sense of independence and choice the Tonie Box provides. Children are able to select stories on their own, listen at their own pace, and repeat content as often as they need. This has been especially powerful for our first-generation English Language Learners and immigrant students, who benefit greatly from hearing clear language models and repeated storytelling. Many students excitedly retell stories, sing songs they've learned, or act out characters with their peers, strengthening both language and social skills.\r\n\r\nSeveral children who are typically quieter or less engaged during whole-group instruction have shown remarkable growth using this technology. Students who are new to English feel more confident participating after listening to stories multiple times, and the calming nature of the headphones has helped children focus and self-regulate during center time. Because of your generosity, our students now have equitable access to a joyful literacy experience that supports confidence, inclusion, and a love of learning. Thank you for helping make this opportunity possible for our East Harlem community.","fullyFundedDate":1758899058299,"projectUrl":"project/bringing-stories-to-life-a-screen-free/9665446/","projectTitle":"Bringing Stories to Life: A Screen-Free Listening Center for Pre-K!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. O'Connell","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9776797_orig.png?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1766787722442","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9776797"},{"teacherId":10268201,"projectId":9724801,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous contribution to my classroom. The tools that were added to this project was specifically chosen to help my students have a variety of options to help them access the curriculum that we are currently using. We utilize dry erase boards during whole group and small group instructions for all subjects. These become even more useful when we are engaged in number talks where each student gets to demonstrate and explain to one another how they would solve an equation. In second grade, students begin to work with 3 digit numbers up to 1000 and with that comes regrouping. Having a flip place value chart is another way that we count how many days we have been in school while still exposing our students to various ways of expressing a two or more digit number. The regrouping magnetic manipulative allows for students be part of the learning in small groups. They are truly grateful. \r\n\r\nMy non readers to early readers like to cozy up in the bean bags with their favorite book and read with enjoyment. We often start our mornings with breakfast and a read aloud, eliciting genuine conversation and book talk. Their language skills have developed so much already. \r\n\r\nWe have been able to use the books to discuss story elements, practice identifying rhyming words, retelling a story and even learn the steps to wash our hands as a mentor text to our how to writing unit.
