As my students build, they are able to explore math concepts, like counting, size and balance while experiencing spatial awareness. Block play also encourages language growth as children are able to describe their structures and share ideas with their friends.","fullyFundedDate":1746785472643,"projectUrl":"project/building-a-strong-foundation/9148489/","projectTitle":"Building a strong foundation!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Guzman","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9778537_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1728150022332","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9778537"},{"teacherId":6939606,"projectId":9043053,"letterContent":"Thank you for your donation to our class. The addition of colors, artwork, and themed decor influences emotions. The added color green, for example, can reduce anxiety. In the 2024-2025 school year, my students were able to enjoy a safe and collaborative learning space and experience making music with various instruments. Now they are connecting different types of sounds to rhythms and melodies thanks to the experiential learning we have been employing as a result of your contributions.\r\n\r\nMy students eyes lit up when they first saw the guitars. They were mesmerized when I was able to plug in the keyboards for them so they could play notes and chords. And even grades as young as Pre-K were beginning to hold drumsticks the proper way and play simple rhythms. \r\n\r\nThis year, we are looking to expand the band program to 4th and 5th graders, with the instruments that are now here in the classroom. There are guitars, keyboards, drums, as well as some brass and woodwind instruments. I want to give the students the opportunity to choose an instrument they want to play and show them the progress they can make over the course of practicing as a group and on their own time for a full school year. For the younger grades, everyone will be singing, moving, and performing rhythms with various instruments. The second grade will also learn to play simple melodies on the glockenspiel. \r\n\r\nI am very much looking forward to continued success this year at P.S. 128.
