Thanks to your generous support, that goal is coming to life every single day.\r\n\r\nStudents now come into this space and immediately notice the difference — the soft chair, the organized shelves of snacks and supplies, the bright coloring materials, the gentle hum of calm. One student recently came in after a difficult morning at home, sat quietly with a snack, and began to color. After a few minutes, she looked up and said, \"I just needed a minute.\" Moments like that remind me how powerful a small, safe space can be.\r\n\r\nThe new materials — snacks, tissues, hygiene items, fidgets, and creative supplies — have become essential tools in helping students reset and return to class ready to learn. They use the journals to express their feelings, the fidgets to calm their bodies, and the art supplies to find comfort and focus. What might seem small to some has made a big emotional impact here.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the stocked shelves, their faces lit up. They couldn't believe these things were \"for them.\" Many asked, \"Can we really take one?\" — and it gave me the chance to say yes, this is for you, and to remind them that their needs matter.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to continue building on this foundation — helping students use these tools not just for comfort, but for self-regulation and reflection. I'm introducing short \"calm corner\" activities and journaling prompts so they can take these strategies back into the classroom.\r\n\r\nBecause of your support, this small space has become more than just an office — it's a place where students find their strength again. Thank you for helping make that possible.","fullyFundedDate":1757929587962,"projectUrl":"project/the-reset-room-basic-needs-big-impact/9523282/","projectTitle":"The Reset Room: Basic Needs, Big Impact","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Nguyen","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8695302_orig.jpg?crop=958,958,x206,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1735831044149","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8695302"},{"teacherId":4926470,"projectId":9289592,"letterContent":"I wanted to begin the school year by giving my students posters with what they would be learning for the year. I wanted to print the sight words or trick words they would be tested on for the year, and I wanted to give them a poster that would help them remember the different sounds that letters and vowel teams make. I wanted to print these posters as resources that they would use at home. My students and their parents are excited to receive the colorful posters I have made and to see how they can help them at home. \r\n\r\nOne thing my students were particularly happy to see and receive were posters with numbers counting from one to one thousand. My students know that this year they have to learn how to add and subtract within one thousand, and the first step in doing that is being able to recognize numbers above 120, which was what they learned to do in the first grade. I want my students and parents to know what they are learning ahead of time. I want them to have no surprises when learning. I teach in an ICT classroom that serves students with disabilities as well as general education students, and I believe all my students should be given a fair chance to do well. Providing all my students with these posters is a step in the right direction. I also believe that giving my struggling students these posters will allow them to get more support at home.\r\n\r\nI am excited because not only was I able to make posters for my students to take home, but I was also able to print pictures, charts, and other materials in color, so that the classroom became alive with color. Receiving the type of printer I requested and all the paper and ink that would allow me to print has allowed me to create meaningful charts and posters for my students, and I am excited that I will be able to continue doing so. Thank you for being the donors who will make an impact on my students and their learning. With actual laptops (rather than Chromebooks that only access the internet) my students can use real software to engage in projects that were unavailable to them before. They have started creating storyboards, posters, and comic strips that not only synthesize their knowledge of the material but allow them to engage creatively with new ways to share their ideas. They are writing their own plays and are so excited to find new ways to share their knowledge with others. We will soon use them for video editing and filmmaking. These laptops are so motivating; they have promoted a great deal of student collaboration and discussion as they work together to share ideas. \r\n\r\nAgain, thank you so much for your generous donation. The fidgets, art supplies, and hands-on materials like Play-Doh and kinetic sand have been instrumental in helping students express their emotions, manage stress, and build coping skills. These tools provide a calming and engaging way for students to process their feelings, especially during challenging moments. Many students who find it hard to verbalize their emotions have used art supplies and sensory tools to communicate and regulate themselves effectively.\r\n\r\nWe've noticed increased participation and openness during counseling sessions, as students are more willing to engage and share their thoughts when they have access to these interactive materials. The hands-on activities have fostered a sense of safety and creativity, enabling students to explore their emotions in a non-threatening way. Many have expressed feeling more calm and confident after using these tools, which translates to better focus and behavior in the classroom.\r\n\r\nThe color printer has been a game-changer for creating visually impactful bulletin boards and resources that reinforce social-emotional learning. These displays celebrate kindness, resilience, and other key themes while offering students reminders of the tools and strategies they've learned. The bright, engaging visuals have made our counseling space feel more welcoming and inspiring, sparking conversations and reflections among the students.\r\n\r\nOverall, this project has helped create a more supportive and nurturing environment for our students. By equipping them with tools for self-expression and emotional regulation, we're helping them build skills that will benefit them far beyond the classroom. Teachers and parents have also noticed the positive effects, with students showing improved emotional awareness and cooperation.\r\n\r\nThank you for investing in our students' emotional well-being.
