Today, in my human anatomy class, students are using the equipment for the first time and they are loving it! We are doing a blood pressure lab where students learn how to cuff each other and then practice measuring the systolic and diastolic pressures. After that, students will learn how to check their heart rates during different activities like sitting, standing, singing, running, and jumping. Finally, we will discuss hypertension, and what happens when arteries get clogged. \r\nThe stethoscope will also be used again during out digestive system lab when students listen to each other drink water. \r\nThe week before Spring Break, we were lucky enough to get a tour of a local hospital and students were really motivated to learn more about health care careers. Our students all take AP exams, and many of them have up to four different exams to take per year. Some students take a morning AP exam, and then an afternoon exam, meaning they are testing for 6 hours per day! The care packages are a way to remind the students to do their best, give them a little pick me up with snacks, and some extra motivation with stress toys and positive stickers. My students absolutely loved the packages and felt very spoiled with the reusable bags to hold all their supplies.
