These books are available to all of my students, but they are read the most by my reading intervention students, who are required to read about ten minutes per day in class. After reading, students choose a prompt to respond to and share about their book with others. It may not seem like much, but to them, it can feel like a marathon. That's why it's so important to have texts that are engaging and relevant for them.\r\nThe goal of the daily reading is to get these students practicing the comprehension skills they're working on in class using books that actually interest them. Reading has always been an overwhelming and unenjoyable task for many of these students, but they are starting to find bits of joy in it through these texts.\r\nThank you so much for helping me make this happen!","fullyFundedDate":1755392571775,"projectUrl":"project/diversifying-our-library/9609620/","projectTitle":"Diversifying Our Library","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Burnett","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9088077_orig.jpg?crop=2400,2400,x0,y176&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1701061846634","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9088077"},{"teacherId":9637439,"projectId":9540555,"letterContent":"I would like to express my heartfelt thanks for your generous donation of writing supplies. Your support is making a meaningful difference in our efforts to empower young people to use their own voices and strengthen their writing skills.\r\n\r\nThese supplies are more than just paper and pens—they're tools that open doors to creativity, imagination, and confidence. For many of the kids we work with, having access to quality writing materials helps them see their ideas as valuable and worth sharing. It gives them a tangible way to express who they are and what they believe in.\r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity, we can continue to build a nurturing space where young writers feel encouraged to explore their thoughts, tell their stories, and develop their own styles. It's inspiring to watch their excitement grow as they realize the power of their words and how writing can help them connect with others and the world around them.\r\n\r\nYour contribution does more than supply materials—it helps foster a sense of belonging and possibility. You've played an important part in showing these kids that their voices matter and that creativity can be a tool for both self-expression and change.\r\n\r\nThank you again for your kindness, support, and belief in the next generation of storytellers. I was able to fill the space with art supplies, game equipment (for review days), snacks, and more! We recently wrapped up our first unit, where we covered concepts like cells and homeostasis. We explored the content through labs, direct instruction, and collaborative projects—all of which became much more accessible thanks to your donation. One of the most memorable moments from this project was the enthusiasm of the kids when they saw the game buttons. To say we had fun is an understatement, and their overall proficiency has progressively improved... so thank you!\r\n\r\nUp next: cell division (mitosis/meiosis) and genetics/heredity! The TPT gift card has come in extremely handy in helping me purchase supplements and lessons to further my teaching. The mini whiteboards were also instrumental in helping me teach thesis statements; students had fun writing various thesis statements using the formulas I provided and then expounding upon them with their thoughts and opinions! It was a more tactile way to teach a relatively mundane task such as thesis statements, yet students had fun (I've provided pictures to back this up!). \r\n\r\nSpeaking of tactile lessons, the Play-Doh was also instrumental in creating an engaging way for students to introduce themselves on the first day of school!\r\n\r\nLastly, the candy has been instrumental in providing students with a fun incentive to do well on our random games and review sessions! Pictures have also been provided that showcase this as well!\r\n\r\nAgain, thank you so much for your generosity and kindness. DonorsChoose continues to help me thrive and grow as an educator. As soon as the boxes came in the mail, they were all so excited to see what new things they can manipulate and learn with. My students are naturally curious students, and so many questions and ideas popped into their heads when they saw the materials. They started asking questions about space, like \"how long would it take to get to Mars?\" and \"What happens when the sun turns off?\" when they saw the inflatable solar system set. My students were asking relevant, high school level questions, which is always what I strive for in my significant support needs special education classroom. \r\n\r\nWe opening the hydroponics kit as part of our ecology unit, in hopes that my students would understand the process it takes to grow plants, grow their food, and the life cycle of a biotic factor in their local environment. The students have been checking everyday to see the progress of their plants. We have even expanded the learning to use the herbs that we are growing to learn life skills like cooking. We have an \"agriculturalist\" in our class jobs whose responsibility is to check on the hydroponic garden and tend to it as needs, and \"gets paid\" to tie inn the economics of agriculture. My students see how everything is connected around them, and are using a scientific lens to discover things that they encounter every single day.\r\n\r\nthank you all so much for the wonderful opportunity that you have given my classroom with contributing to their learning through new science supplies.
