Students have been designing projects, creating prototypes with our 3D printers, and learning how manufacturing tools can bring their ideas to life. Their reaction to the new materials was excitement and curiosity, with many students eager to begin creating and experimenting.\r\n\r\nThe resources are also helping students understand that making is about more than simply building something. They are learning to solve problems, improve their designs, and think about how a product could be marketed or sold. This connects directly to our entrepreneurship lessons, where students develop business ideas and create products using the manufacturing processes available in our makerspace.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are to continue developing student-designed products from start to finish. Students will refine their designs, create prototypes, make improvements, and prepare Shark Tank-style business pitches. We can now treat the children in our own room without sending them to the Nurse's office for cough drops. \r\nWhen the students saw all of the hygiene corner supplies, they were mesmerized with the chapsticks, the hand lotion, and the antiseptic wipes. They offered to assist him in placing the new fridge in the 'right' place in the classroom. For the past three weeks, students from the middle school had been staying after school every day from 3 pm to 5:30 pm to build two robots to complete in the FTC Competition. We completed the robots, and had an outstanding experience at the competition. \r\n\r\nOriginally, we only had four students staying after school, but we expanded that to nine after word spread that we were providing good snacks. The nutrition provided a nice incentive, and it allowed the students to work longer without fighting hunger pain. This donation had a huge impact.\r\n\r\nWe've only used about 25% of the snacks so far, and the remainder are currently being provided after school for our high school robotics students while they prepare for their FRC Competition in March. (Our building collects cell phones all school day, so this is one of their favorite options.) I also permit them to sign the books out to read whenever they choose as well. Catching Fire, Mockingjay, and The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes have all been favorites since they arrived.
