I know that there are many competing demands, but I am glad that you deemed our school a worthy option.\r\n It is always a challenge to find kid friendly yet durable seating for students but with your help I was able to do just that. The bright blue beanbag chairs were an instant hit and I have already had to gently remind some students about the importance of giving and taking turns! The bench solves two of my problems in one as it provides seating for students and also serves as a storage option for the ever-expanding collection.\r\n My favorite part of the job is instilling in children a love of reading. We had a \"put the chairs and logs together\" party in 6th period, one of my smallest, yet wiggliest classes! Students loved collaborating and then sat in the chairs and pretended to give haircuts in a barber chair. The snacks went first, and very happy students were able to take a favorite flavor. Many of our students do not eat lunch and there are times in the day they are struggling to work because of being so hungry. After putting together the little log stools, each class held a discussion on how they would be used. Students asked to sit in them all throughout the day for a little comfort and change from the hard plastic seats. I still have some of the sharpened pencils to use in the future (a high commodity in a middle school classroom!)\r\n\r\nThis project in general showed students that not only do I care for them, but there are others who support them in their learning and growing. It made a big difference for them, as evidenced by their thank you notes. We struggled at first because I came late in the year but this loving gift was a turning point. There is no doubt that the students appreciated every part of this special investment. They were confused but honored to be given items from someone they did not even personally know. I am eternally grateful for your generosity and these items will continue to be used in the next school year for myself and the students.
