The addition of new storage shelves made a huge impact on how our room functions and feels every day. Before the project, our classroom materials—especially learning toys, manipulatives, and supplies—were scattered, stored in overcrowded bins, or stacked in hard-to-reach places. It was challenging to keep everything organized, and students often struggled to find what they needed quickly, leading to distractions, delays, and even frustration during lessons or playtime.\r\n\r\nWith the shelves in place, our materials now have a designated home. Each item has a clearly labeled and visible space, making it easy for students to access what they need and return it when they're done. This change has dramatically improved the way our classroom operates. Students now move through their day with more confidence and independence. They no longer need constant reminders or assistance to find learning tools, and they are proud to take responsibility for keeping our space clean and organized.\r\n\r\nThis level of structure has also allowed us to use class time more effectively. We spend less time managing clutter or hunting for misplaced items, and more time actively learning and engaging. The shelves have helped us establish learning centers, where materials are grouped by subject or activity—like math manipulatives in one area, literacy games in another, and creative materials in their own space. This has supported smoother transitions, encouraged student choice, and fostered a sense of order and calm throughout the room.\r\n\r\nHaving toys and hands-on learning tools easily accessible has also increased student engagement. These materials are no longer \"out of sight, out of mind\"—students are naturally drawn to them and are using them more often and more meaningfully. They are exploring math concepts through games, practicing fine motor skills with manipulatives, and engaging in imaginative play using items that used to be tucked away. Their excitement for learning has grown simply because the tools they need are ready and waiting for them.\r\n\r\nFor me as a teacher, this project has made a world of difference. It's easier to plan, prep, and clean up lessons. I feel more in control of the classroom environment, which reduces stress and allows me to focus more energy on teaching and supporting students. I've also seen an improvement in classroom behavior, as a more structured space has led to fewer disruptions and a more peaceful atmosphere.\r\n\r\nUltimately, this project did so much more than add storage shelves it helped create a learning environment where students thrive. It sent the message that our classroom is a place that matters, and that their learning experience is worth investing in. I'm so thankful to the donors who made this possible. Your generosity didn't just give us shelves—it gave us structure, joy, independence, and a renewed sense of pride in our space.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in our classroom and for making such a lasting difference!","fullyFundedDate":1713968988634,"projectUrl":"project/transforming-our-learning-spaces/8187260/","projectTitle":"Transforming Our Learning Spaces!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Vaughan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8707905_orig.jpg?crop=1170,1170,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1700148900797","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8707905"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_64417","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":732,"numTeachers":20,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":82,"percentWhite":1,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":15,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"36.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":56.6,"schoolId":64417,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Pimlico Elementary Middle School 223 on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Pimlico Elementary Middle School 223","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/maryland/baltimore-city-public-school-district/pimlico-elementary-mid-school-223/64417"}
