Our students were filled with joy and happiness when they saw the new rug in our classroom. They have more space during learning time and we immediately saw students more engaged because they were in a comfortable learning space. \r\n\r\nWe use the rug through out the whole day for large group lessons. We start off the day with morning meeting where students use the rug to create a welcoming space where everyone can see and interact with each other. Students have designated letter spots which help with transitions. During phonics, we incorporate movement by assigning specific sections of the rug to letters, sounds, or word families. Students can hop to the right spot as they practice decoding and blending. We have read-alouds at the end of the day on the rug. The cozy seating encourages attentive listening! The rug allows enough space for turn and talking to partners and interactive read-aloud strategies. For our Math and Literacy block we pull students for small group. The rug is a designated zone for collaboration and rotation. We are able to have different activities and materials set up on the rug in sections to help with student focus.\r\n\r\nOur students are really enjoying writing and we are about to introduce writers workshop. I believe our next project will be funding materials for writers workshop. Writers workshop is worth supporting for so many reasons. It fosters creativity and expression, builds critical literacy skills, offers differentiated learning opportunities, encourages a growth mindset, prepares students for the future, and ultimately creates a classroom of writers. The materials we would ask for in our future funding project would be notebooks, organizational tools, or even technology to help enhance the experience.","fullyFundedDate":1733281612264,"projectUrl":"project/help-us-create-a-cozy-learning-space/8898943/","projectTitle":"Help Us Create a Cozy Learning Space!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Piombo","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9083369"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_107041","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":673,"numTeachers":35,"percentFrplEligible":68,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":87,"percentWhite":0,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":10,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"19.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":69.9,"schoolId":107041,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Philip's Academy Charter School - Newark on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Philip's Academy Charter School - Newark","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-jersey/new-jersey-department-of-education/philip-s-academy-charter-school/107041"}
