The resources we received through Donors Choose have helped sparked my student's creativity and allowed them to express themselves while learning. As soon as the art supplies came into our classroom, my students were asking \"What are we going to make?\" and \"When can we start?\" \r\n\r\nDuring our Creative Me theme, we read the book The Dot, by Peter H. Reynolds, which inspired us to host a Pre-K Art Show for our families and community members. We spent all week using different materials to create our own dots- the white cardstock from our order served as the base for most of our dots! The new watercolor paints- the same as Vashti used in The Dot- made for a beautiful dot display. And we used our brand new paint brushes to paint mosaic pieces for our Alma Woodsey Thomas inspired dots! Our Pre-K Art Show was an absolute success and we couldn't have done it without the support of our donors.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, I am excited for my students to use the Model Magic and googly eyes from our order to sculpt their own insects during our Amazing Critters theme. The legos, puzzle, breathing pal, and canopy have been amazing for our students to take a break and focus on something else. The breathing pal is honestly the most simple yet effective tool for a student to hold and recalibrate their breath and emotions. It has helped many of our students ground down and regulate in order to be able to hop back into our lesson. The canopy has become a staple in our room and students often take some time to take a time away in there. I have attached photos and hope you enjoy seeing these items in our space! I haven't gotten the table back to the classroom yet, still in storage after maternity leave, but will soon! We use our local park's baseball field to play and with our bases they students know where to run to and it is clearly marked. \r\n\r\nOur football flags are so useful. While a casual reader might enjoy the plot, in our classroom, we use these texts as \"blueprints\" for critical thinking and communication.\r\n\r\nWith these new titles, I am able to introduce sophisticated literary concepts that were difficult to demonstrate with our previous, limited selection. Specifically, we are focusing on:\r\n• Contextual Vocabulary: Instead of memorizing word lists, students are learning to use \"context clues\" within these engaging narratives to decipher the meaning of unfamiliar words.\r\n• Perspective-Taking: Many of our new books feature diverse protagonists. We use these to teach Point of View, asking students to analyze how a story would change if told by a different character. This builds both reading comprehension and social empathy.\r\n• Text Evidence: During our lessons on the new carpet, I ask students to \"prove it.\" They flip through their new books to find specific sentences that support their theories about a character's motivations.","fullyFundedDate":1752321083274,"projectUrl":"project/zest-for-learning-literacy-lab/9365220/","projectTitle":"Zest for Learning Literacy Lab","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Lee","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9554270"},{"teacherId":9554270,"projectId":8419498,"letterContent":"The arrival of our new classroom carpet and the curated collection of books has completely transformed the energy in our learning environment.
