These books are some of their favorites. Each student having their own book means that we can take notes in the books, highlight important information, and they can look up things when they need to. Also, the students get to take the books home at the end of the year. \r\n\r\nWhen we read the first Dragon Masters book, we stop and discuss the story together, make predictions about what we think will happen, write our thoughts about what actually happened, and many other things. One of our favorite things to do is complete a design your dragon project where the students create a poster or 3D model of a dragon and tell all about it. I too, myself, enjoyed reading the graphic novel! The books have engaged my students and made the book more appealing. The illustrations in the graphic novel have provided an easier access point for context clues and tone of more difficult parts of the story. The books have also assisted students in building vocabulary and assisting with inferencing skills through both text and imagery. All in all, the books have helped students interpret visual elements of the story which has helped with their comprehension.
