My students were very excited when the setup for our classroom ecosystem arrived. We had studied ecosystems in the previous unit, and they were still grappling with the concept. Once they understood that they would be building a real, functioning ecosystem with live fish and plants themselves, they became even more excited. Their curiosity skyrocketed even more once we started discussing which types of fish to include and what materials we would need to support life in the tank.\r\n\r\nRight now, our students are researching how different species live together and rely on one another to survive. This has also led them to explore abiotic factors. They are debating whether the tank should be saltwater or freshwater. They are also asking what kind of light and temperature the tank will need. I'm excited to see them make real-world connections between what they learn in science and how it applies to living systems.\r\n\r\nThanks to your generous support, my students are building and developing a true understanding of ecosystems.
