My students were four- and five-year-olds from South El Monte, a low-income, high-immigrant community. Many of my students did not have English-speaking parents at home who could provide additional support with English and schoolwork. During the pandemic, this made access to engaging learning resources even more important.\r\n\r\nThe digital resources provided my students with opportunities to continue learning, practicing, and exploring from home when learning looked very different from what they were used to. The activities covered a wide range of subjects, including literacy, math, science, social studies, English language development, social-emotional learning, and growth mindset. Having access to resources created by other educators helped me provide meaningful activities that were developmentally appropriate and engaging for young learners.\r\n\r\nMy students are happy, curious children who love to read, play, create, and learn through hands-on experiences. Although the pandemic brought many challenges for our families, these resources helped us maintain a sense of connection to learning and gave students opportunities to continue developing important academic and social-emotional skills.\r\n\r\nI am grateful to the donors who helped make this project possible. Their generosity allowed me to provide my students with a variety of engaging digital learning experiences during a difficult and uncertain time. These resources helped keep learning going and reminded my students that, even when school looked different, they were still capable of learning, growing, and having fun along the way.","fullyFundedDate":1628822793303,"projectUrl":"project/we-can-continue-learning-during-a-pandem/5658479/","projectTitle":"We Can Continue Learning During a Pandemic","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Fernandez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp4044705_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1522373633269","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/euri-fernandez"},{"teacherId":4044705,"projectId":5622451,"letterContent":"This project made a meaningful difference in our classroom of 23 four- and five-year-old kindergarten students. My students come from South El Monte, a low-income, high-immigrant community, and many of them do not have English-speaking parents at home who can provide additional English and literacy support. Because of this, the time we spend reading, writing, practicing letters, numbers, and sight words at school is especially important.\r\n\r\nThe dry-erase materials gave my students additional opportunities to practice essential kindergarten skills in an engaging and hands-on way. Instead of repeatedly using paper and pencil, students could practice writing their names, forming letters and numbers, and working on sight words over and over again. Being able to erase and try again made practice feel less like a worksheet and more like an opportunity to learn from mistakes.\r\n\r\nMy students are happy, enthusiastic children who love to read, play, create, and learn through hands-on activities. They have many different interests—from sports and drawing to books and imaginative play—but one thing they share is that they enjoy coming to school. The materials from this project helped make learning more interactive and enjoyable while giving students the repeated practice they needed to build confidence and develop foundational skills.\r\n\r\nI am grateful to the donors who made this project possible. Their generosity provided my students with resources they could use again and again, helping them become more confident writers, readers, and learners while also reducing the amount of paper we used in our classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1627571663349,"projectUrl":"project/saving-trees-while-learning/5622451/","projectTitle":"Saving Trees While Learning!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Fernandez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp4044705_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1522373633269","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/euri-fernandez"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_28955","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":877,"numTeachers":34,"percentFrplEligible":91,"percentAsian":6,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":0,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":93,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":0,"gradesServed":"Pre-K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"25.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":84.9,"schoolId":28955,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Parkview Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Parkview Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/mountain-view-school-district-los-angeles/parkview-elementary-school/28955"}
