Students now have immediate access to food when they come to school hungry or need something to keep them focused throughout the day. One specific moment that stands out happened during our review day for the upcoming unit assessment. Several students who normally struggle to stay engaged were able to grab a quick snack, settle in, and stay focused for the entire activity. The calm, productive environment that day was largely due to their basic needs being met, something your donation helped make possible.\r\nTheir reactions were a mix of excitement and relief. Many students were surprised to see how many options were available, and several expressed gratitude right away. A few quietly pulled me aside to say how helpful it would be to take food home for the weekend or use the hygiene supplies to feel more confident at school. These materials immediately helped students feel cared for and supported.\r\nRight now, students are working on building long-term academic habits like organization, task completion, and preparing for assessments. Having consistent access to snacks and basic necessities allows them to stay focused on these goals rather than worrying about unmet needs. Our next steps include small-group work, skill-building activities, and continuing to create a supportive environment where students feel ready to learn every day. These texts don't just sit on the shelves, they spark powerful conversations about identity, justice, resilience, and belonging.\r\n\r\nIn our counseling space, reading looks like students gathered together, flipping through pages, sharing passages that speak to them, and asking each other thoughtful questions. Many of our discussions now begin with, \"This character reminds me of...\" or \"I never thought about it this way before...\" The books encourage students to connect their own lived experiences with the stories they read, building both self-awareness and empathy.\r\n\r\nOne of my students, who is usually quiet, lit up when she found a novel featuring a character from her cultural background. She told me it was the first time she saw her family's traditions represented in a book at school. Another student, who has been working on building confidence, has taken to recommending books to his peers, proudly becoming a leader in our reading circles. Moments like these show how representation truly empowers young people to see themselves as valuable and capable.\r\n\r\nBecause of you, our space feels more inclusive, welcoming, and inspiring. We were able to run and get one extra gown that fit her a little better than looking like a t shirt on her. She was so happy and appreciative to be able to fit in better. I know last year I was running around trying to steam while we were getting in line still to help each student look and feel their best. These texts have introduced important skills such as making personal connections, identifying emotions, and expanding vocabulary through relatable characters and stories. Many of the books highlight themes of kindness, resilience, and acceptance, which help students better understand themselves and others. By seeing characters who look like them, live in similar communities, or face challenges they can relate to, students are not only building literacy skills but also developing a stronger sense of identity and belonging.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is now more interactive and joyful. Students take turns reading aloud, listening to audiobooks, or following along with illustrated texts, which gives them multiple ways to access the stories. We also incorporate discussion, role-playing, and visual supports to make the stories come alive. This helps students of different ability levels participate meaningfully in reading time, ensuring that everyone has the chance to learn and grow together. The new books have transformed reading into an experience where students eagerly share their thoughts, ask questions, and connect what they read to their everyday lives.\r\n\r\nSeveral students have shown a special enthusiasm for the new books. One student who was once hesitant to pick up a book now asks to revisit a favorite story every week, proudly retelling the plot in his own words. Another student lights up when she finds a character who uses tools or strategies similar to her own, making her feel seen and celebrated. Students are learning to recognize emotions in themselves and others, empathize with characters, and talk about complex feelings using language they may not have had before. For example, in one story where a character faces a difficult friendship decision, we paused to ask, \"How would you feel in this moment?\" The answers were thoughtful, personal, and powerful. These books are helping students connect literature to real life.\r\n\r\nOne student, Jonasia, who used to be hesitant about reading aloud, now volunteers eagerly when we read books that focus on emotions and relationships.
