These picture books have been incredibly impactful in our speech therapy sessions. First, wordless picture books take the decoding pressure off students who struggle with reading. Without the stress of reading text, students can focus on expressive language. This allows us to hear how they formulate simple, compound, and complex sentences and evaluate their ability to produce narratives.\r\n\r\nWith these books using their rich illustrations we have been able to engage students. I have had them guess what will happen next, make predictions, and look for clues describing characters' emotions. \r\n\r\nStudents who often feel intimidated by traditional reading tasks are especially thriving with these new books.
