These picture books have been incredibly impactful in our speech therapy sessions. First, wordless picture books take the decoding pressure off students who struggle with reading. Without the stress of reading text, students can focus on expressive language. This allows us to hear how they formulate simple, compound, and complex sentences and evaluate their ability to produce narratives.\r\n\r\nWith these books using their rich illustrations we have been able to engage students. I have had them guess what will happen next, make predictions, and look for clues describing characters' emotions. \r\n\r\nStudents who often feel intimidated by traditional reading tasks are especially thriving with these new books. My coworker and I, both speech therapists, have been using these tools daily to help our students feel calm, focused, and ready to learn. The sensory materials and headphones have made a meaningful difference in our sessions and across our school day.\r\n\r\nDuring our Halloween parade, one of our students with Autism carried the weighted dog for calming input, which helped him stay regulated and enjoy the event successfully. The headphones have allowed us to run small groups more effectively—two students can complete independent work on their computers while another works 1:1 with a therapist, allowing for seamless transitions and focused attention for everyone.\r\n\r\nYour donation continues to make a lasting impact on our students' communication and emotional growth.
