It was eagerly anticipated for months until finally at the end of January, students began to make their own Pop Art sculpture, after seeing past student sculptures prominently displayed since August. \r\n\r\nStudents greatly enjoyed both the independent and collaborative aspects of designing and building their paper mâché sculptures. Turning simple materials like newspaper and glue into large, vibrant works of art gave them a strong sense of ownership and pride. Watching them eagerly pick up their sculptures the moment they walked into the room each day was a powerful reminder of how invested they had become—and a moment that made me deeply proud as their teacher\r\n\r\nBy the end of the project, our classroom was transformed into a gallery of bold, bright sculptures that reflected each student's unique interests and the remarkable results of two months of sustained effort. One standout piece was my eighth-grade student Thomas's Toblerone sculpture, nearly five feet in length. More than anything, this experience deepened students' understanding of Pop Art while showing them what they are capable of—that they can commit to a long-term process and create something truly substantial from start to finish, a lesson that extends far beyond the classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1746541601264,"projectUrl":"project/seeing-the-art-in-the-everyday-pop-art/9077857/","projectTitle":"Seeing The Art In The Everyday: Pop Art Paper Mache!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Purdy","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp497891_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1452476896872","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/katherine-purdy"},{"teacherId":9547050,"projectId":9963963,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous contribution to our classroom. In our diverse school community—where gifted students, English language learners, and students with special needs learn side-by-side—origami became a shared language. With each carefully folded Secret Letter, balanced penguin, and star-shaped box, students discovered that they were capable of more than they imagined. What began as hesitation quickly turned into determination, focus, and pride.\r\n\r\nThe excitement was contagious. Students walked into class eager to begin, comparing folds, helping one another, and celebrating their successes. The new storage system has made an immediate and meaningful difference for my students.\r\n\r\nThe three metal lockers are now set up as a clear, student-friendly \"take what you need\" station. One locker is dedicated to school supplies, one to hygiene supplies, and one serves as a lost and found. The labeled containers have made everything incredibly intuitive. Students know exactly where to go whether they need a pencil, a hygiene item, or are looking for something they misplaced. They're able to help themselves independently, which has increased both responsibility and confidence. The system has been completely foolproof and is doing exactly what it was designed to do, which is honestly a dream.\r\n\r\nI also want to say a special thank you for the Swiffer. Our floors are only cleaned once a year during the summer by custodians. Since our classroom is outdoors, dirt and mud have been a constant challenge, especially with all the rain we've been getting in Los Angeles. Having the Swiffer means I can now regularly clean the floors and keep the space more comfortable and welcoming for students. It has made a bigger difference than you might imagine.\r\n\r\nThanks to your generosity, our classroom is more organized, cleaner, and more accessible for students every day.
