Your generosity has already made a meaningful impact on my students.\r\nThe new resources were first used by our incoming 9th graders participating in the Dolphin Leadership Academy summer bridge program. When the students saw the clay, they were so excited to get started! The clay inspired them to create animal sculptures representing the leadership characteristics they hope to embody during their high school career. As they shaped and sculpted their animals, they were also building self-esteem, growing new relationships, and developing their creativity and problem-solving skills.\r\n\r\nThe remaining clay and tools are now being used by our seniors in their Ceramics classes. I have loved watching them become calm and focused as they get to know the clay and create their own animal sculptures. They are learning foundational skills such as shaping, smoothing, and properly attaching clay. The new tools allow them to refine their sculptures and add professional-looking details, giving them the confidence to see themselves as true artists.\r\n\r\nNext, we will be creating a fall-inspired hollow-form project. Students will have the opportunity to design pieces inspired by pumpkins or Día de los Muertos skulls while continuing to develop their sculpting and construction techniques.\r\n\r\nYour support has given my students more than just clay and tools; it has given them opportunities to create, connect, express themselves, and discover what they are capable of. I teach high school chemistry- and many of my students did not know how to play games. They do now. If we finish early- which sometimes happens- kids now play games with each other. The community building is AMAZING. Thank you for joining me on this unexpected journey. I'm humbled by your generosity and your willingness to walk alongside of me as I rebuild my classroom at Palisades Charter High School. \r\n\r\nSchool opened in mid-August, and thanks to your kindness, my students and I were able to begin creating an inspiring, welcoming learning environment that is truly ours. There are no posters on the wall, school supplies in the cabinet, and snacks in the cookie jar. Some students are waiting by my door when I arrive to work at 7 a.m., a sign that we have indeed worked together to create a place where they feel valued -- and safe. None of this would have been possible without you, a truth that I reflect upon daily.\r\n\r\nThe students especially appreciate having access to the chromebook chargers. Many of my students have fallen behind in their studies because of hardships at home. They often come to school with a dead chromebook. A lot of the curriculum that we use in the credit-recovery program is online, so having a working device is vitally important. The kids are now able to use one of my charging stations in the classroom and complete their assignments -- while munching on a granola bar, which eliminates the hunger pangs they feel after missing breakfast. How this warms my heart!\r\n\r\nThank you for choosing to support my work. This will be my final year of teaching. I hope to also make it my most rewarding year. Once I finish my work at Pali High, I will be able to turn my full attention to restoring my home, which is three blocks from school. I am 67, and my husband is 77. We never anticipated having to deal with the challenging situations we currently face. And we're forever thankful that you delivered the funding needed to offset the cost of the school supplies that we have purchased for so many years. My husband and I both deeply value education. We were the first in our families to graduate from college. We want others to have the same opportunities. Like us, they cannot do it alone.\r\n\r\nThank you, thank you, thank you for helping my students envision a brighter future. \r\n\r\nThank you, thank you, thank you for supporting my work when I needed it most.","fullyFundedDate":1786051456980,"projectUrl":"project/classroom-campus-under-construction/10443722/","projectTitle":"Classroom, Campus Under Construction","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Saxon","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7366219_orig.jpg?crop=566,566,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1754597166664","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7366219"},{"teacherId":10170459,"projectId":10151738,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your contributions to my students' educational journey. Many of my students have experienced significant disruption and loss, and having beautiful, new materials to use has given them an opportunity to focus on something positive and creative. We have been using the project bags to organize materials for hands-on classroom projects, and the art supplies have allowed students to express their ideas in ways that go beyond traditional assignments. One especially meaningful moment was watching students choose their materials and immediately begin creating. There was a genuine sense of excitement as they explored the supplies and realized that these materials were specifically provided for them.\r\n\r\nThe students' reaction when they first saw the materials was wonderful. They were excited, curious, and eager to get started. For students who have been dealing with so much uncertainty, having something new and creative to look forward to has been particularly meaningful. The supplies have helped create a classroom environment where students can relax, collaborate, and reconnect with the joy of learning.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are to continue using these resources in our current hands-on projects and to give students opportunities to take greater ownership of their work. We will be designing, creating, and presenting projects that demonstrate what they have learned while allowing their individual creativity to shine.
