Since receiving the art supplies, my students have been eagerly using them to explore new techniques and express themselves in meaningful ways.\r\nOne of our favorite projects was inspired by two street artists. Students studied their unique styles and then combined elements from both to create vibrant, eye-catching pieces using the neon oil pastels. They were amazed by how bold and dynamic their artwork turned out, and the excitement in the room was contagious as they shared their creations with one another.\r\nWe also explored classical art by creating our own American Gothic parodies inspired by Grant Wood. Using the markers, students added their own modern and humorous twists, which led to lots of laughter and pride in their work.\r\nNext, we're excited to continue exploring new artists and styles, building on what we've learned so far. As a parent, I collected books that my own children loved to hear and read themselves. As an educator, I added books to my class library that they loved to hear and read. Unfortunately, all of those books were destroyed when the Palisades Fire burned my class down.\r\n\r\nOur new classroom had the basics, but was lacking something every class needs; books students want to actually read and hear read aloud. Not textbooks or math books, but books students would actually want to pick up and enjoy. \r\n\r\nThe impact of your donation can be seen every time my students enter the classroom and rush over to our library. It could be heard every time a student excitedly asks a friend, \"Will you come read a book with me?\" Now, students are actively seeking out books to sit and enjoy by themselves or with friends. The best part of our library classroom visits is the calm down that students experience once they begin reading. They are so entranced by these amazing and inspirational worlds that their entire focus shifts as they dive deeper into their reading. Nothing beats seeing students' excited faces when they realize there are even more worlds to explore now thanks to your generosity.\r\n\r\nDuring Women's History Month, we read \"Mae Among the Stars\" by Roda Ahmed and learned about Mae Jemison and what inspired her to be the first African American woman to travel to space. We even read the \"Ocean Call A Haenyeo Mermaid Story\" by Tina Cho and discussed the amazing free diving women of Jeju Island who boost their communities by scavenging for sea creatures in dangerous waters. The students were fascinated by these amazing women, and I am thankful that I was able together a hold of these stories to share them with my students.\r\n\r\nOur TK and Kindergarten classes enjoy the books the most. With our new organizational system, we have a range of beginner level reading books, allowing all students to practice their reading, preparing them for even more advanced reads. Technology has become an essential part of our daily learning environment. In our classroom, students use devices to research information, practice skills through interactive programs, collaborate on projects, and express their creativity in new ways. Whether they are writing stories, solving math problems, or exploring science concepts, technology allows them to engage with content in ways that are meaningful and personalized. Currently, we are working on an animal research project. The students love looking up information about their chosen animal. \r\nTechnology helps meet students where they are by providing differentiated instruction and immediate feedback. It supports struggling learners with additional practice and gives advanced students opportunities to go deeper. Students are more motivated, more confident, and more willing to take risks in their learning when they have access to these tools. The students use I-Ready almost daily in math and reading which requires a device and is an individualized program.\r\n\r\nBecause of your support, these opportunities are possible. You are not just providing resources—you are opening doors for our students and helping them build skills they will carry with them into the future.\r\nOn behalf of all my students and myself, thank you for your generosity, your belief in education, and your commitment to making a difference.","fullyFundedDate":1770596907302,"projectUrl":"project/we-are-pali-strong/10089080/","projectTitle":"We Are Pali Strong!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. McKenna","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10412834"},{"teacherId":10414270,"projectId":10046409,"letterContent":"Thank you again for your generous support of our classroom. Because of your donation, my students have been able to use technology in meaningful and engaging ways that truly enhance their learning.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, technology is more than just a tool—it allows students to actively participate in lessons, practice skills at their own level, and receive immediate feedback. Whether they are working on reading comprehension, math practice, or writing, students are able to engage with content in a way that is interactive and motivating. This has helped increase both their confidence and independence as learners.\r\n\r\nWhat has been most exciting is the level of enthusiasm the technology has brought into our classroom. Students are eager to use these tools and often ask for more opportunities to incorporate them into their learning. Even students who may struggle during traditional lessons have shown increased participation and persistence when using technology.\r\n\r\nI have seen several students, especially those who are typically more hesitant or quiet, become more confident when using these resources. The interactive nature of the technology allows them to take risks, try again, and feel successful without fear of making mistakes in front of peers. Watching these students light up when they master a skill has been incredibly rewarding.\r\n\r\nYour support has made a lasting impact on my students by creating a more engaging, inclusive, and supportive learning environment. The new puzzles have brought them so much joy and reminded them of ones they had lost in the fire. The CVC games have really helped them to perfect their decoding skills too! \r\n\r\nWe are really looking forward to using our new supplies for our units on Earth Day, the books and the little globes will be so loved! While Chromebooks allow students to complete everyday assignments, the addition of a MacBook Pro has opened doors to deeper learning experiences that were previously impossible in our classroom. Students are now creating movies using iMovie, recording narration, editing sound, and combining writing, visuals, and storytelling into polished final products. Instead of simply submitting written assignments, students are producing documentaries, book trailers, and public service announcements that demonstrate critical thinking, collaboration, and creativity.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting part for students has been seeing their ideas come to life in professional ways. They are amazed that they can add music, transitions, voiceovers, and effects just like real filmmakers. Many students who typically struggle with traditional writing tasks have become highly engaged when given the opportunity to communicate through video and multimedia projects. The MacBook has allowed students to take ownership of their learning, often asking to revise and improve their work because they feel proud of what they are creating.\r\n\r\nSeveral students who are usually quiet or hesitant academically have especially flourished with this technology. One student who rarely volunteered to share written work confidently narrated and edited a class video project, discovering a new strength in digital storytelling. Another group eagerly stayed focused during collaborative editing sessions, supporting one another as problem-solvers and creators. Beyond academics, these tools have helped rebuild excitement and normalcy in our classroom after experiencing loss, giving students a creative outlet and renewed sense of possibility. When the art supplies arrived, students immediately gathered around the materials with excitement and curiosity. Many of them shared that they had not had access to quality art materials since losing our school last year. One student quietly said, \"It feels like our classroom is real again.\" That moment reminded me that these supplies represent far more than paint and paper—they represent stability, comfort, and a return to normalcy.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has allowed our students to create mixed-media pieces expressing their creativity and uniqueness. Students who are often hesitant to speak about their emotions found confidence through art, sharing their work proudly with classmates. Students have very interesting conversations together while they are working on their projects, and often the conversation turns to what they have been through the past year. They are allowed to express themselves naturally, while focusing on creating beautiful art. The classroom has become calmer, more collaborative, and filled with meaningful conversations sparked by creativity.\r\n\r\nThanks to you, this is only the beginning. Our next steps include collaborative murals focused on resilience, student art journals that support ongoing social-emotional learning, and a student gallery walk where children will showcase artwork that tells their personal stories of growth.
