We had talked about tuning and intonation many times before, but without reliable tuners and contact mics, it was hard for students to truly develop their ear and take ownership of the process. Now, with the clip-on mics and tuners set up, students can see and hear exactly how small adjustments affect their pitch.\r\n\r\nThese tools have opened the door to more intentional practice. We've started incorporating regular tuning checks into our warm-up routine, and students are becoming more confident in adjusting their instruments independently. Each year, I have been conducting lessons with A Raisin in the Sun and Hamlet. We just finished A Raisin in the Sun in February, and we are currently finishing Act II of Hamlet. Without a doubt, the students loved A Raisin in the Sun. Their enthusiasm with taking on characters to read during our class time was truly a memorable experience as this year I have quite a group of dramatic students who have upped the ante on how to truly experience an acting part. Those students who are not dramatic have overwhelmingly enjoyed the reading experience. The same has now been happening with Hamlet to where even the quietest students are stating to me that they are enjoying Hamlet tremendously. \r\n\r\nThe activities have ranged from creating modern day online dating profiles for a \"single\" character in A Raisin in the Sun to creating games, that are not digital in nature, to help students review for Act II. Quote and soliloquy analyses, character analyses, and final papers are all part of the learning with these two plays. The background knowledge regarding the past racially inspired housing discrimination practices were definitely an eye-opener for the students as it was important to learn about what was happening \"real estate\" wise in the past before reading the play. From here, Hamlet is quite the episode, so trying to understand the \"royalty\" and their complications has placed a spotlight on family values along with one of the ten commandments as one \"shall not murder\". It has been the discussion of moral courage over physical courage that has taken the stage at this point. \r\n\r\nI hope you truly understand the impact you have made simply by providing some additional literature in order for each student to take a book home with them and to have on in hand each day within the classroom. The resources you provided—snacks, storyboards, notepads, books, and supplies have truly enriched our learning experience, helping students think critically and creatively about the novel. \r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, my students were excited to dive in. Having their own copies of the book allowed them to read and analyze the text closely, while the notepads provided a dedicated space to jot down reflections, questions, and connections. The storyboards, in particular, have become a powerful tool in our classroom. Students have been collecting their hard work and will use them to visually map out key scenes, track character development, and illustrate major themes throughout the novel, and showcase their final writing summative. \r\n\r\nAs we near the end of our unit, the storyboards will take center stage in a gallery walk, where students will showcase their accumulated work. This will allow them to see different interpretations of the novel, engage in discussions with their peers, and celebrate their hard work. This hands-on, interactive approach not only reinforces comprehension but also encourages students to take ownership of their learning. \r\n\r\nThe snacks have also been invaluable, giving students the energy to stay engaged during discussions and writing activities. Many have expressed appreciation for this small but meaningful support in their daily learning. Additionally, I have students coming by that aren't currently in my classroom asking for a snack, and of course receiving a snack. \r\n\r\nLooking ahead, my students will use their notes and storyboard reflections to craft argumentative/informative essays that explore the novel's deeper messages. The skills they've developed—critical thinking, visual analysis, and structured writing—will carry over into future assignments and discussions. \r\n\r\nYour generosity has made this unit more engaging, interactive, and impactful.
