Calculators are an essential instructional tool that support students in developing mathematical understanding, confidence, and problem-solving skills.\r\nIn our classroom, calculators allow students to focus on higher-order thinking rather than becoming discouraged by computation alone. They help students check their work, identify patterns, and better understand mathematical concepts such as operations, fractions, percentages, and algebraic relationships. This is especially important for students who benefit from visual and hands-on supports, including students with learning differences.\r\nCalculators also promote independence and equity. Many students do not have access to these tools at home, and having them readily available in the classroom ensures that all learners can fully participate in lessons, assessments, and collaborative activities. With calculators, students are able to engage more confidently, contribute to group work, and demonstrate their knowledge without unnecessary barriers.\r\nAdditionally, calculators support real-world learning by helping students develop skills they will use beyond the classroom. Students learn to use technology responsibly, verify solutions, and apply mathematical reasoning to real-life situations. This builds both academic skills and confidence.\r\nOverall, calculators are not a replacement for learning math—they are a support that enhances understanding, encourages engagement, and allows students to succeed. Their presence in the classroom has a positive and lasting impact on student achievement and motivation.\r\nThank you for your continued support of student learning and educational resources.","fullyFundedDate":1726600824501,"projectUrl":"project/time-to-calculate/8670807/","projectTitle":"Time to Calculate","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Santiago","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp2819000_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1471557838358","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2819000"},{"teacherId":9910492,"projectId":9944672,"letterContent":"Thank you for your support. For many of them, it was their first time using real, professional-grade equipment, and the DeWalt drills gave them the confidence and stability they needed to complete each task safely and successfully.\r\n\r\nI'll never forget their reactions when they first saw the materials. The room filled with excitement—wide eyes, huge smiles, and students eagerly asking, \"Are we really getting to use those today?\" The presence of real tools made them feel trusted, capable, and empowered. These weren't just classroom activities—they were meaningful, skill-building experiences that will stay with them.\r\nNow that they've completed their first stools, we're moving into the next phase of our unit.
