One of their favorite activities was creating their own cast and mold fossils, which helped them make meaningful connections between the rock cycle and how fossils are preserved. Students who finished early were eager to flip through the paleontology books, sparking their curiosity with stories of ancient life and paleontological discoveries. These moments of excitement remind me how powerful it is when students can physically connect with the science they are learning.\r\n\r\nThe scientific calculators have also quickly become an everyday tool in our labs, giving every student the ability to calculate percentages, analyze data, and solve problems with confidence. Looking ahead, we are excited to use the Sun-Earth-Moon system model when we dive into our astronomy unit later this year. One of the most exciting moments came early in the year when students got to observe pond water under the microscope; the room filled with shouts of \"Look at it moving!\" and \"This is so cool!\" as they discovered tiny living organisms for the first time. These moments of awe and discovery have made abstract concepts concrete, while also sparking curiosity about the hidden world around them.\r\n\r\nThe Sharpie markers have been just as impactful, fueling creativity in both science content and student expression. My 6th and 7th graders have already used them to label diagrams, build colorful 3-D models of cells, and design analogies that connect cell structures to places in their own lives. In our Earth Science classes, students use them to create layered models of Earth's structure, highlight tectonic boundaries, and show the processes of the rock cycle. The markers allow students to add color and individuality to their projects, helping them take ownership of their learning. Students were excited to see the new supplies and immediately started brainstorming how they could use them to make their projects stand out. \r\n\r\nThe next step for my classes is to expand our microscope investigations and continue building a full classroom set so that every student can engage in hands-on exploration at the same time. Already, students are asking what else we can look at under the microscopes - from soil samples to minerals to their own hair.
