It has been such an amazing addition to my classroom! It allows my students to have a reference wall in which they can not only have visual models but also have an auditory component to go along with the visual posters. \r\n\r\nThe way this works is each sound poster has a voice recorder attached. When a student is reading and is unsure of what a pattern says, they stand up, walk over to the poster, hit the button, and they hear my voice giving the sound that is made. They then go back to their seat, and apply that sound to the word they are trying to read. This allows my students to have an active role in their decoding. First, they have to figure out what the sound says. Then, they need to use that sound and apply decoding skills to read the word. One way this has been a game changer for me is those times when I am unavailable to my students. For example, when I am working with a reading group and I have some students reading independently, they can have my help with the tap of a button. But the best part is that I am not giving them the word. Instead, I am telling them the sound that is made, and they must use that sound to decode the word. It makes learning fun and it holds students accountable for their own reading. \r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw our interactive sound wall, they were like kids in a candy shop. They just had to touch every button. They LOVED that when they touched the button, they heard my voice. Once they understood the concept, they began to use this as a tool when they were stuck or unsure. It has helped to reduce the amount of time that my students are sitting at their desks, unsure of how to decode a word. It has reduced guessing. I have seen my student's confidence grow since we first introduced this into my classroom. \r\n\r\nNow that the students understand how to use this as a tool, I am finding new ways to incorporate this into my classroom. I have made interactive games in which the students can use the voice recorder buttons as a \"phone a friend\". It makes learning fun and allows my students to get help when I am unavailable.","fullyFundedDate":1733247363761,"projectUrl":"project/help-us-make-a-multi-sensory-sound-wall/8924201/","projectTitle":"Help Us Make a Multi-Sensory Sound Wall That Produces Sound","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. S.","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3244636"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_89292","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":429,"numTeachers":45,"percentFrplEligible":66,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":2,"percentWhite":52,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":39,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"3 - 4","studentTeacherRatio":"9.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":72.0,"schoolId":89292,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Nottingham Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Nottingham Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/pennsylvania/oxford-area-school-district/nottingham-elementary-school/89292"}
