Because of your generosity, we had the chance to step into the shoes of scientists and work with real lab specimens; a fetal pig, sheep brains, and cow eyes!\r\n\r\nWhen we began this unit, many of us had only seen diagrams of body systems in textbooks. Because of you, we got to see, touch, and explore what those systems look like in a real organism. We examined how organs and tissues are organized, made connections between structure and function, and asked; \"Why does this look like this?\" and \"How does that help the organism?\"\r\n\r\nHere are some moments that meant the most to us:\r\n\r\nAt the lab table, one student exclaimed, \"Wow, this is real—we're actually dissecting!\" and instantly the class buzzed with curiosity. \r\n\r\nWe worked in teams, passing scalpels carefully, sharing observations, comparing what we thought we'd see vs. what we found. Our collaboration got stronger.\r\n\r\nWe realized things like: the heart's valves aren't just flaps ; they're designed to keep blood flowing in one direction; the brain's \"wrinkles\" increase surface area; the eye's structure shows how light enters and is processed.\r\n\r\nSome of us said: \"This is the moment I know I want to be a vet/doctor/scientist.\" Having these real materials opened the door from \"I'm curious about science\" to \"I can do science.\"\r\n\r\nBecause of your support, we now understand body systems much more deeply — not just in theory, but in practice. We feel more confident asking questions, designing ideas, and imagining what we might study or do in the future.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in us and investing in our learning. You've given us tools, but more importantly you've given us inspiration. We won't forget how your donation made real, meaningful science possible in our rural classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1755830793587,"projectUrl":"project/pigging-out-on-science/9426810/","projectTitle":"Pigging Out on Science","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Schulte","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp1866439_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1479224856938","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ms-lewis-science"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_2275","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":393,"numTeachers":33,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":13,"percentWhite":70,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":10,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"11.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_REMOTE"},"inStateSupporters":72.2,"schoolId":2275,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Northside High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Northside High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/north-carolina/beaufort-county-school-district/northside-high-school/2275"}
