The book sets you have funded will allow us to officially launch a daily \"Book Group Time,\" transforming 20 to 30 minutes of our 70-minute language arts block into a buzzing hub of social reading. While our core curriculum (Wonders) does a great job teaching foundational skills, it relies heavily on short stories and brief excerpts. Your donation will give us the full-length, high-interest novels my students desperately need to build real reading stamina. Starting this fall, the kids won't just be practicing reading; they will be experiencing what it actually feels like to get lost in a book.\r\n\r\nBecause we will have sets of six copies per title, reading in our classroom this year will look less like silent desk work and more like an active community. I will be training my students to take full charge of their groups—learning how to negotiate reading goals with their peers, track their own pacing, and lead independent, structured discussions. It turns out that when you give a ten-year-old a suspenseful plot twist or a heavy moral dilemma, they don't want to fill out a worksheet; they want to talk about it with their friends. This setup is also going to be a game-changer for my daily teaching: because the students will be highly engaged and independent in their book groups, I will be freed up to pull small groups for critical, targeted Tier 2 instruction.\r\n\r\nI expect the most profound impact to be on our reluctant readers—the students who have historically struggled to see themselves as \"book people.\" This school year, they are going to find out that they can finish a chapter book every two weeks because they finally have access to titles they actually want to read.
