Our students are thrilled to receive their brand-new magnetic whiteboards, and the excitement in our classrooms has been incredible.\r\n\r\nThese sturdy, easy-to-manipulate boards are already making a meaningful impact during our UFLI phonics instruction. Students can quickly decode and encode words using magnetic letters, allowing them to practice essential literacy skills in a hands-on, highly engaging way. The boards have transformed our lessons—turning phonics practice into an interactive experience that students genuinely look forward to each day.\r\n\r\nYour support has given our learners tools that not only strengthen their foundational reading skills but also spark enthusiasm and confidence. The color-coded xylophones give them a simple, accessible way to engage with music. Because the colors match the notes, students can focus on one clear visual cue at a time, which helps reduce overwhelm and allows them to take small, successful steps toward making music. Even brief moments of engagement—pressing a mallet to a bar, reacting to a sound, or exploring a pattern—are big wins for my learners, and these instruments help make those moments possible.\r\n\r\nI am also seeing positive shifts in their regulation and attention. Many of my students struggle with transitions, sensory input, and sustained tasks, but the structure and predictability of the color-coded instruments provide a calming routine. Some students are beginning to show more focus as they explore sounds, while others are demonstrating increased tolerance for shared space and turn-taking. For students with limited communication, even a few consistent taps on the same color or a smile when they hear a tone is meaningful progress. These small steps add up to significant growth in their ability to engage with people and materials in the classroom.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, these xylophones give my students opportunities they don't always get the chance to experience—moments where they can create, explore, and be celebrated for what they can do, no matter how small. Your support is helping remove barriers to participation and offering my students a safe, sensory-friendly way to connect with music. The impact is seen in their increased engagement, calmer bodies, and the joy they show when they create a sound of their own. Thank you for helping make these meaningful experiences possible for students who benefit deeply from every bit of support and access they receive.","fullyFundedDate":1759429483816,"projectUrl":"project/music-is-for-everyone/9760797/","projectTitle":"Music Is for EVERYONE!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Edwards","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4089744_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1711631980569","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4089744"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_53808","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":445,"numTeachers":43,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":2,"percentWhite":17,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":77,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"10.3:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"UNCLASSIFIED","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":63.9,"schoolId":53808,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about North Windham Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"North Windham Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/connecticut/windham-public-schools/north-windham-elementary-school/53808"}
